Maybe it takes a lot more work with Flitz, but here's mine with just two applications with Mother's with my hand and a rag! You'll have to trust me, but mine were very yellowed before I started. I'm sure they'll even be brighter after I use my drill with a foam attachment on them next.

I completely believe you. My headlight covers are a mess and nothing has worked. Before reading your post I had given up. I will try Mother's on them for sure.
Ironically, I was too cheap to have someone else do it four years ago. Since then I've spent more that amount on various products and kits with zero results.
...but at least I can clean a gun!
Flitz is good, but I get better results with Mothers Mag Polish. Here's my Ruger SP101 after hand polishing with Mothers:
