For those who carry or shoot their J frame. What ammo do y’all run

I sure appreciate everyone's input so far

Looking forward to seeing other folks post what they use also

158 gr. semi-wadcutters, or 148 gr. Hollow based full wadcutters.
Nowadays the 148 grainers almost all the time.
Because of the component shortages I no longer do any practice shooting with my centerfire revolvers, and haven't for a couple of years. I still carry one of them fairly often.
I have a decent supply of components bought at the much lower " old " prices of several years ago, but are saving them for the even more desperate times that are likely to come over the next 3 to 5 years.

Carried 148 wadcutters for years but when Federal released the 130 gr HST I switched. When my stash of those is gone I'll go back to wadcutters.

Hornday 158GR XTP standard pressure.

But truth be told, I'd not want to be shot by any of the ammo listed above...

I personally liked all the Federal Nyclads. When they were in production, and you could find them. Otherwis I carry 158 grain Lead round nose for practice and for carry.

I rotate guns but when I carry a J frame it's my 640 no dash loaded with Winchester Silver Tips. I have a nice nickel model 37 that I may carry some and will carry it with silver tips too.

For practice I shoot home loads with Berry's plated flat point 125 grain over a minimum recommended load of AA #2.

When I carried it. Gave it to my mom for her nightstand.

Up until recently my EDC was my rd butt 36 with T grip. With 2 speed strips close by. I practiced with whatever I could find cheap. But I carried 158gr FEDERAL FBI LOAD. It shot perfectly to POA. Sadly I've moved onto a P365. I simply couldn't see the J frame sights very well anymore. Perhaps one day I'll look into a red ramp insert. Finding an old school gunsmith will be the challenge.

I have a couple of types of old style factory loads (Federal Hydra-shoks are 129 gr., I think, and Winchester or Federal 158 gr. LSWCHPs) that I can keep in the gun when away from home. For everyday use the 36 gets handloads with 160 LSWCs with a light charge of 231, or something similar with Bullseye, AA2, 700X, WST, or whatever I have available.

I too have a terrible time with the sights on my older J-frames these days. The ones with the thin front sight I more or less have been forced to reduce to "point & squirt" operations. The 340PD is available with a red ramp, which does help some. It would be nice to see S&W make us a "Geezer's J-frame" with some serious sights, but of course with the current flood of compact 9s, I doubt S&W is too interested in spending money on the Chief's Special-type product line.

Regular, everyday wadcutters-------WW.

What Ralph said, if I'm totin' one of my old Chiefs.

Barnes Lead Free 140gr HP .357 in my 640-1 Pro everyday. It's the only one I've tried where POI is POA.

I have lots and lots of other stuff I practice with just to try to be better on the paper. I'm not looking for anything to replace what I "use" just find it fun to try to improve with stuff that hasn't let me be my best.
