I am not sure why you want to remove it. That said, put on some leather gloves or something that will both give you a firm grip and protect your hands from the sharp edges and then turn the "tool" 90 degrees. It takes quite a bit of force at first.

I simply do not ever remove it as I do not find the need to change the grip insert from the medium size and I do not see the need to use that "tool" for disassembly.

once you get the backstrap size you want no need to take it out - however - the first few times are hard - once I got mine turned the 90 degrees or so you turn it I used a good sized wood dowel to finish prying & pushing it out

I had the deal .....I wanted to change the blackstrap. It would not even turn so I had to use a pair of small pliers. Yeah, I gouged it a bit but you hardly see any scratches.

Unload the gun, remove the mag, and put a few drops of oil on the tool from inside the mag....a flashlight helps to see the locking tab. Let it sit for awhile then turn the tool until it loosens up and then try to remove it. Make sure it is exactly 1/4 turn from the locked position, otherwise you will damage the small locking tab when you pull it out.

frame tool

I agree with most on here. The first few times on my FS and compact 9s were very difficult. It gets easier as you go. Then thru this site I found out may not be a good thing. IMHO take it out as little as possible. If field stripping, the instructions clearly say use the frame tool "or similar device" I personally have found a pencil works and won't scratch?

Hope this helps.

It is in firmly to start, and I initially did not realize that the quarter turn is required. I wish I had logged in here earlier.

I tried all the inserts, went right back to the medium that it wore in the box, and have better tools to push the sear bar so plan to leave it alone.

Thanks for the information.

Again if u have a shoelace tie ends together the size of a rubberband, wraparound the tool 1 or 2 times & just pull up,no need for oil .
