front sight acquisition problem on trijicon sights

hey everyone (y'all for you fellow southerners),
Just need some tips on acquisition for the night sights. I've got a police issue M&P 40 and the sights do illuminate in the dark but that small white surround is hard for my eyes to pick up. I've resorted to covering the front sight post in lime green vinyl (I do vehicle wraps for a living so excess vinyl is plentiful) and I pick that up very well but then loose the advantage of the night sights. I'm thinking of just covering them in a reflective green (my eye picks up green over most other colors) and just going with it. any suggestions that don't involve a ton of money?

It your sights are Trijicon they might be under warranty. I bought a used M&P 40 and the sights were dead. I called Trijicon and asked about relamping them. My sights were warranted for 10 years. I sent my slide to them and they installed new sights. Look at your rear sight for a date and give them a call. BTW there was no charge for their service.

Order a small vile of Super Luminova BGW9 in blue or C3 in green.This is extreme glow paint material for serious dive watches.glows brighter than any night sights,and last about 8 hours once charged.Simple sunlight or artificial light for just a few minutes is all it takes.Last a lifetime without fading.Why this industry has overlooked this material for low light sights is amazing.

Trijicon HD night sights are ideal for rapid acquisition under all lighting conditions. They have a large surround, unlike the skinny standard versions. The surround is colored green, orange or yellow, and is phosphorescent. It will glow for about 10 minutes after being exposed to bright light (sunlight), for maximum effectiveness when entering a dark space.

You can use them with a standard rear sight, or replace the rear with one matched to the HD (rounded notch, no borders on the tritium cell).

The tritium cell itself glows green.

Get some of the BGW9 and paint over the white.I promise you it will be brighter then the tritium lamp.You will want to do all your sights once you do this one. Just google images for 2000 meter dive watch's anf look at their Lume. ( which last all night ) The BGW9 glows light blue

When I ordered my Full Size and Compact I ordered the factory 3-dot night sights. They're "OK", but like you I found them to be a bit hard to pick up quickly in daylight.

When I bought my Shield it came with standard 3-dot sights, but I wanted night sights for it so started looking around. I ended up with the Ameriglo Tritium I-Dot sights. They're night sights with a LumiGreen outline around the front sight which is very easy for me to see in daylight conditions.

I'm not sure what you consider as "a ton of money" but I just bought a set for my M&P Hybird for $90. Of course you'll have installation fee if you don't do your own sight installs.

For me night sights are good for making sure my gun is pointed in the right direction in low light. No more.. no less...

I would agree with Neumann, upgrade the sights to Trijicon HD's. Way worth it.

Due to their height, I didn't think Trijicon HDs would work with a standard rear sight. Otherwise, I have them on three pistols and they're great.

I have some 3m green reflective that I'm going to apply to the face of the sight post then cut out the night sight hole....guess I'll see how that goes. might be a good youtube project for the weekend.

Another option is paint over that front sight and get a CT laser for low light.
