Frozen, Canned, Packaged Food that is Good

Tomorrow Tuesday January 24, 2017 is National Peanut Butter Day. The Peter Pan Simply Ground is good stuff, but I like other brands too.

Im a PB fan-partly due to economics and partly due to low blood sugar. Jif's is my fave but I like the other brands too.

Jif, Skippy, or Peter Pan are interchangeable for me and I buy what's on sale. I have a target price of $1.50/16 oz jar. The Peter Pan Simply Ground comes in a 15 oz jar which I can usually coupon down to $1.50. It's a step up from my standard three chunky butters. There's a Simply Ground that has honey in it too, I have not tried that version. If I wanted peanut butter and honey, I'll want the ingredients to come out of two separate containers.

I do WAY more heating than I do cooking.

I'm a big fan of the Costco items. Orange chicken is one of my faves. Right now I have a filthy big box (it IS Costco ;) ) of rolled beef tacos and one of jalapeno poppers in the freezer. I like their frozen packets of Yakusaki (SP?) noodles, fried rice. I also like their boxes of frozen potstickers. Heat & eat. The rolled tacos go great with shredded cheese & Costco individual guacamole packets.

Frozen breakfast burritos.

Do you ever get the Goober type? which has jelly entertwined with it. As a kid, I liked it but, last time I had it-the PB part reminded me of eating plastic.

Have you seen how many calories in ONE Pop Tart?

Ramen noodles is another of the "There's how much salt in these?" brands out there. I like to take diced ham and cook it up with the macaroni when making mac n cheese. When you strain the macaroni a lot of the salt has cooked out of the ham and goes with the water.
205 calories in one frosted cherry Pop Tart?
Definitely not on my diet.

Asian food tends to have bunches sodium. I always drink lotsa water to flush all that salt out.

Mine either. Right now--HEBs has a sale on the big boxed pop trts-two for $5?? or something similar. I almost "bit" but walked away. Anyway--buying 36 of them would take me sevrl months to go through them all. Id wind up giving the majority of them away anyhow.

Can't beat it for convenience though.
Some of the stuff we get from them would cost us at least the same or more if you add in the gas it'd take to come down out of the mountains to go and get it.

Its been 27 years since I last was able to afford them. Id buy the 8 oz steaks, the ice cream and the pizzas.

Pop Tarts, used to eat them, but in a long ago thread about pop tarts it was mentioned about Pillsbury toaster pastries ( rburg I believe?) and he was right, very superior!
Our special breakfast on the weekends, with coffee!
Goober, pb & j mixed in one jar. When I was in college, Clemson, a grad student on my floor from N.J. in the tower (much better than the tincans!!!), and I were about the only ones there one weekend. All of the S.C. guys were home. He asked me to his room for lunch. He opened his closet and and there were multiple cases of the goober stuff! I asked why he had the stuff by the case. He explained that he learned from his mother, if you like something, complain to the manufacturer about some defect, bug, dirt, or whatever, and they would send you a case to keep you satisfied. Evidently different family members complained and used different addresses for different products so that the manufacturer did not catch on! Then they traded among themselves. Early version of a petty scam game, though based upon the amounts of product he talked about, it wasn't petty! Learned something new about people that day! Never tried the product again. PB from one jar, jelly from another since, and the mixed product wasn' t that good to me!

I remember seeing that stuff but do not recall ever buying it. I'm a peanut butter on cracker or toast fan and rarely eat PB&J.

Boy, I remember growing up my folks were very thrifty (i.e., cheap).

We would go camping and have SPAM, eggs, and Libby's corned beef hash for breakfast and sometimes lunch. Hopefully, we caught fish and would have that for supper, otherwise it was something simple.

To this day, when I go to a nice breakfast place and get 'real corned beef hash', it doesn't taste anywhere near as good as that stuff enjoyed by the camp fire. Other canned foods never really stuck out to me. Maybe soups.

Have you priced corned beef lately?

We have enjoyed a range of the Costco prebuilds - Chicken pot pie, lasagna, shepherds pie, some noodles with veggies or shrimp . Quite a good selection actually.

A few months back I had a $2 off a $20 purchase electronic coupon and bought two of these on sale. Still have this one in my freezer. Boil for about 2 1/2 to 3 hours and you have the makings of a grand meal.
