After seeing this, and many other recent run-ins with these formidable beasts, I started wondering how much fire power would it take to stop a gator attack. I'm not talking about "the perfect gator gun" but rather what most of us carry daily. For example, I carry a .38 loaded with soft LSWCHP, would this penetrate their tough hide? What about a jacketed hollow point 9mm? I've never shot a gator, so I have no idea. I do know the best defense is to stay off the golf course in spring.;) An older gentleman I met told me a 1911 with ball ammo makes quick work of them.

I don't know what it takes either but the "Swamp People" seem to off a lot them with .22's,mostly rifles.
Seems to do them in quick with back of the head shots.

Shot placement is key. Hit 'em right with a rock and it will do the trick. Miss 'em right with a .44 mag and you'll get bit.

It takes very little to kill them IF you hit the tiny little spot on the back of the head.

I've killed a couple of alligators. One was with a .22 LR and the other a 9MM both in handguns. Shot placement was everything and fast, jacketed bullets best.

Gator? Forget the gator...

I would be more worried about what is killing an eating the gator! Snakes! Big snakes...Boas and Anocondas! Wild life is almost all gone down in the Everglades! January's wildlife report has seen its biggest decline in all wild life! Some at 95% less than the year before.

Sometimes, the gator wins!
