Getting Ready for the Big One!

So back when the earth was flat,(when I was a kid), we used to call this "winter".
Nowadays, the media hypes up winter weather to "end of the world" proportions.
To those of us who were born in the northeast, 16-20 inch snowfall is a good sized storm, and we know how to deal with it in stride. Hale and hearty folks are we.
So, with a good amount of yankee skepticism, I'll believe it when it's on the ground.
Update:
Instead of the 16-20 inches predicted for my area, 12 inches made it to my driveway.
Just another example of the hysteria generated by the media, "out of an abundance of caution".
Geezus...

I still think I don't want to live anywhere as cold as Ohio and nowhere hotter than Tx. I don't want to live anywhere that is often as hot as my shower. Nor anywhere it is as cold as my freezer.

I'll take cold over hot any day, you can only take so much off but you can always put another layer on.

We got 8" last Friday, I don't know how much we will get tomorrow, I will find out when it stops.

I am ready! Stopped by the store on my way home ... went right past the bread & milk. :D

Snow Menace

Here at the western end of Long Island, we're promised 12-18 inches of snow. I have my snow thrower gassed up and ready. I also reread the instructions to crank up my Generac generator and I've got the heavy cable plugged into the house in the event of a power failure. It would feed the breaker panel through a manual interlock which will not accept power from the generator unless the main breaker is in the off position.

The wife went to BJs for odds and ends and reports that maddened, frantic people were stocking up as though the end of the world was coming.

loknload we'll keep our fingers (and everything else) crossed for all of our forum members that could be affected by this strong storm, hoping that this one is not as bad as the forecasters believe that it could be.

Looks like you've got your bases covered and are as ready as you can be. My only suggestion is to top off all of your autos, four-wheelers, etc. When the power is lost the gas stations can't pump fuel, and the clerks may not be able to take your money or credit card.

As we used to say when we were at sea "Stand by for heavy rolls!" Stay warm, too!!

Here in the "burbs of the burgh" a fire is laid..... wood rack is full........

bottle of single malt is standing by.................

let it snow, let it snow ...let is snow.......

OK..... the snowblower is gassed up and ready to go ........ I found my autographed copy of "The Donner Pass Survival Guide" .................................. going to watch "Jeremiah Johnson" tonight...... to get into the right mind set........................

Made preps here this morning.

1. Stop at bank and get some folding cash.

2. Right next to bank is a state Store (liquor store).

3. Went into State Store and purchased a fresh bottle of Scotch.

4. Went home to await snowmaggedon!

Snowblower already prepped!
