Glock 17 DETHRONES M&P9 edc gun!

To each their own. Whatever you shoot best. But .... Billions?? Yes I realize some are stretching it. Have a great day whatever you choose to shoot or carry!!

That was fast. As I recall, only a month or two ago you were saying that you had sold your M&P40 in favor of the M&P9, and now you're already on to the Glock 17.

That being said, the Glock 17 is a time-proven design which just plain works, hence why it's still around after all these years.

Personally, I prefer the M&P or even the Sigma series because the grip just plain fits my hands better, but as I've been saying for the longest time, there's no such thing as the ideal, one-size-fits-all platform for self-defense, so you've got to do what works best for you.

I doubt that anyone save for the oldest of fogies, the most trendy of keyboard commandos, or one of those guys who unironically brags about how he concealed carries an otherwise gorgeous pistol in threads regarding self-defense/concealed carry will fault you for choosing a G17.

I had always liked the Glock 17 idea until I shot one. To me no better placement than the near 20 year old original M&P 1.0. I am sticking with the M&P, but I am old (Fogie, keyboard commando?) and prefer the familiar. No Seal missions for me.

Perfection.

It's always caused a chuckle for me each time it comes up.
I was first one my block back in what, '86 or '87 when they
they hit our shores? Our neighboring Miami PD was the first,
or least among the first, in the nation to adopt the 17. So, I was
naturally curious. Didn't last too long, before I tired of the slippery
texture, and odd grip angle.

I've watched and read of their storied progress over the years.
There used to be a website of great gun info called 'The Gun Zone'.
I forget the name of the gun-writer who ran it. He'd written under
the pseudonym of Waldo Lydecker for years, then finally outed himself.
Sadly, the domain is now up -for-sale. Anyhow, plug this search into your Google:

nypd glock malfunctions

As to the infamous Phase III malf, I have personally experienced it while shooting a 3rd gen G19 using Win/USA white-box 115gr FMJ. Witnessed by my friend who was with me that day. Yeah.....'Perfection'.

I've owned a few M&Ps and more than a few Glocks. At no point did I find anything about the M&P better than or more interesting than the Glock, but it's good to have options for those that don't get on well with Glocks due to grip angle or whatever reason.

S&W pretty much had to put out a Glock competitor to stay relevant in the LE market, and they made a perfectly serviceable pistol that I may not like as much as the Glock, but that I wouldn't cry about were I ordered to carry one around.

About that "soul" thing that keeps coming up: The quality of your soul isn't demonstrated by how beautiful one is, it's demonstrated by one's actions. I admit my Glock is an outlier (an early 17L), but compared to my Browning High-Power, the Glock is more reliable, more accurate (in two different shooter's hands), and points more naturally.

My BHP is more beautiful, but my Glock has more soul!

Disclaimer: I actually don't buy into the "soul in inanimate objects" thing. I just like to cause trouble!

I'm certainly a multi gun shooter. I've carried, for a living, revolvers, SA/DA S&Ws and Sigs, 1911s, and both V1 M&P 9s and Glocks. Fortunately, not all at the same time. :)

My carry for the last several years, with no plans to change, is a Gen 4 G19FS. Other than a sight upgrade, it's bone stock and as reliable as I can make it. Here it is in the obligatory "macho" gun porn pic. :)

YMMV.

There are many like it...

Nothing wrong with Glock, I own a few and carry a G45 at work. The only problem with Glock is they are like gingers, no soul.

EDC with a Glock 17
On your hip?

Sure. Under suit coat or winter jacket
Most of us can carry a bigger pistol then we think we can.

And to correct earlier poster: I carried M&P9 for 3 years. I got a 40 just because it was a good deal, recently. It got fired a few times and then I sold it for more than I paid. Didn't do anything 9mm won't do, and a bit more recoil.

I've always resisted Glock. I just never really cared much about them one way or the other. I recently picked up a really nice used, Gen 5, G-19. This one I like. It hasn't replaced my Ruger Security 9 as an EDC yet, but it's seriously in the running.

You will shoot well with what fit your hand and points naturally.
For me, that has never been anything Glock.
M&Ps fit my hand and point naturally.

I did warm up to a Glock lately when I got a "thin" G48.
Better grip angle and doesn't feel like I am holding a 2x2 chunk of lumber like i do when I hold a G17 or G19.
And with the SA steel mags it holds 15+1 like a G19.

But the G48 is closer to a Shield size and weight than a fullsize gun like a G17 or my 5 inch MP9.

Threads like this are akin to which pickup truck's the best. If a Glock's what floats your boat, rock on.

Only a few more iterations....
Yeah, there was that 2nd gen M1911, known as the M1911-A1, which addressed issues raised by cavalry troops, namely, it was too difficult to rack the slide from condition 3 while riding a horse and holding the reins, and then the hammer could bite the hand during firing.
