Goodbye from Cowboy117

I've gotten dinged once or twice, too. Like Lee says, nothin' personal. Not a big deal, Cowboy. Hope you feel like comin' on back in a bit.

Always like your posts, especially the music stuff.

Where else can you get good clean fun at whatever price you can afford to pay?

To plagiarize an earlier post:
I love this board because it generally is not rude or vulgar.
I love this board because boorish behavior is not generally found.
I love this board because anyone can safely be allowed to read nearly any post without finding offensive content.

I have gotten points for inadvertent rules violations. That is the result of a good clean system.

Most of the forums I have been on there were things that members could not post. Some folks think that forums are supposed to be the ultimate expression of free speech but they are not. There are limits everywhere in society including your friendly neighborhood forum. It's fairly straight forward. Live by the rules that are posted or leave.

And speaking for myself, I have been on forums that I decided I didn't like the climate and I simply left. No swan song and no pity party needed for me. And I am sure everyone figured out that I wasn't around anymore.

Just my opinion but I feel that those who say they are leaving should do so. Too often though they are talked into staying and they receive a pat on the back. Net result: childish behavior is rewarded. After a while the whole thing may repeat itself. To me, such things would be expected in Pre-School or Kindergarten but adults responsible enough to own firearms should be past such things.

I've been thumped on the head a couple of times here, but it didn't hurt long. I just try harder to obey the rules. As Lee stated earlier, "it's not personal".

I love The Lord, I love my family and I love a risque joke. Several of my threads have disappeared because of innuendo and I'm guilty of using a double entendre or two. I'm the uncle that will tell my nephew about Jesus and love stones in the same conversation. I don't cuss on this forum though and I don't hold a grudge when a post gets yanked. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff and really it's all small stuff, kinda like Anthony Weiner's pup tent. Sleep on it and come on back.

I stumbled into this forum not very long ago. For me it was liking finding a diamond in a Crackerjack box. The extent of the knowledge that the forum members provide to rookies like me is nothing short of fantastic. And one of the things that impressed me right off was the overall tenor of the posts & comments - cordial, gentlemanly & helpful. To quote the song, "I love this bar."

what we say

This whole "on line" thing, as I have mentioned a couple of times in other posts, is a new thing for me. I'm not much of a joiner, and I am a person who appreciates polite privacy. In the few instances that I have seen "discussions" become what I would call out of line; name calling, condecension, negative inferences, etc, it has ocurred to me that folks would not talk to each other this way if they were face to face, in "real life" if for no other reason that, indeed, "an armed society is a polite society." I greatly appreciate the general tone of this forum, and I gather from reading other's posts that it is the exception, and not the norm. This medium easily becomes an oppurtunity for those that have various "issues" to act out these things, and be "heard" in the only place they may have found to do so. Obviously, some oversight is desirable, and required, to maintain something like this. And it is certainly a demanding responsibility to be part of the group that performs this service. But, on ballance, I feel that those in charge do better, and find a more favorable reception with those that they govern, if they lead by example. I have had positions durring my life that required confrontation, and in retrospect, I often violated the very principles I was advocating or enforcing, when all I had to do was speak the truth to the offender, and let the guidelines we had all agreed on be the "tough guy." When considering this situation that is currently being discussed, and in 20-20 hind sight, I feel that Lee would have done better to just hold his peace, or make some overture to the individual that they were welcome to stay, as long as they wanted to abide by the rules we ALL had to follow. I'm sure he has re-thought the, "take your toys" comment, and that, in a large part, is how we grow. Words are like that, when they are out there, you can't take them back. Someone visiting the foum, or a newer member, or maybe someone like me, may have gotten the wrong impression of the forum and how it is overseen, when reading that exchange. As a young man, I rarely listened to the experience and suggestions of older men, and now I find myself on the other side of the same coin! But it is incumbent upon me, none the less, to offer these insights that came as a result, mostly, by making mistakes, and hopefully, learning from them so I wouldn't have to repeat them. Flapjack.

I'm going to leave this board because of my "creative spelling".I got my 2nd.message from "The Moderators" today.I wasn't asked to leave,it's just my time. Thanks for all the great info,ect.Cowboy117 signing off for the last time. :) Take care,ALMOST everyone.

Stick around Cowboy.

Heck I've been in more trouble than you due to my own stupidity. Little mistakes but none the less, I broke the rules. And each time I took it personal and gave the mods some grief.

If they don't enforce each and every infraction, then someone will complain that they are not being fair. Selective enforcement of the rules would lead to bedlam here.

Some of my posts have been insulting, highly opininated, and down right rude. I try not to, but sometimes my anger gets the best of me. It's something I need to work on.

Even when I was a kid, I needed a boot in the butt a time or too.:p

have to say i agree with how handejector handled the situation. if he wants to just walk away from the issue rather than try to change and better himself then its better for the forum as a whole if he isnt here. just my 2 cents

Whew!!! I'm glad to see other folks have gotten dinged!!!

As stated by another poster, this is not our house and we are guests. That's how I see it as well. I also like Handejectors sentiment about this staying a site that people can show their kids and learn more about shooting.

There's topics I won't bring up, things I won't reply to, people I think are nut jobs, and lots of other things that are in my real life that don't belong here. As stated, this isn't our website, we're here for a visit.

Also, I'd like to thank my parents for ensuring that my education enable me to express myself without the need to swear (although I do in real life) ...

And I must add, it wasn't too classy to say 'almost, everybody' ... if a person really gives a rats hind end (see, I didn't say ***!) they don't need an 'exit thread' to bash the mods over something that I now see most of the people I read all the time here have, and that's a ding or two. I honestly feel much better seeing some long timers and quality posters have had a slap as well ... not nearly as isolating :D

I already forgot who started this thread ,but I hope they have a great life, and can find an outlet to creatively spell what ever the **** they want.

Cre@t!ve sp&!!ing is a method used to post a word that is not allowed on this board.

I simply will not host a board that is rude or vulgar.
I will not host a board where boorish behavior is the norm.
I will not host a board that people cannot use to teach their children about the shooting sports.

No need to remind me that worse is commonly seen on TV.
I don't set the standards for my life or this board by TV.
It almost seems that most of America does now- How's that workin' out for ya?

American society desperately needs standards like these if we ever wish to be truly "great" again.

Does this mean the board will shut down now? Can it go on?

I always wonder about the motivation of people who post the "I'm leaving and never coming back" announcements. I always suspect they come back and read the thread to see if anyone is going to beg them to stay. Maybe not.

Anyway. See you around.

I come from a part of the country where cussin was an art form and not slander.
I can appreciate rules---truely, I can.
Sometimes I see the common cuss words and they make me laugh--it is a good solid way on making a point. It really doen't offend me.
Now vulgar cussin is another thing entirely & so is using it to draw attention.
I try and respect folks and this board---in person you might get shocked if your ears are real tender.
Blessings

Interesting subject here. I am a multiple time offender, and pretty much scratched my head when my hand was slapped... didn't see where I was wrong by defending myself..... After much self examining, figured out that my way of thinking isn't always exceptable!! Ok, kewl, I felt better knowing that. Never too old for a reminder... creative spelling.. now that was a good one, took me a little while to figure out what that one meant... got it now.. just because I spelled it different, doesn't mean I didn't say it... :)

I appreciate this board greatly, it really is the best of any boards I have participated on, love the rules here, they really are guidelines to a good life. Thank you Lee, and the other Mods that have reminded me ..... :)

It is quite refreshing to enter this forum, most behave like adults, insults and just plain nastiness is not tolerated.

All of us are guilty of not totally reading all the rules which appear in writing for us to follow.

I received a message from "The Man" for a very small infraction having nothing to do with others.

I apologized for my ignorance, didn't become sensitive, and won't ever violate said rule.

If you mess up, accept it and don't repeat. This forum is the very best on the internet, and one I want to continue to visit.

For my small sin, after notification, I was embarrassed and became a Bronze Contributor, that's how I handled the whole situation.

It's kinda like kids saying they are going to hold their breath until they get their way.;)

I stand behind Lee and the other moderators for the fine job they do. I have been warned and edited more than once, and doggone it, I deserved it. I'm single, so I nobody "moderates" me at home, and most of us need a little moderating in our lives, whether we think so or not. We need the big gorilla to keep all us little monkeys in line. Cowboy, I'm sorry you're so sensitive, but like they say, " Don't let the screen door hit ya, where the good Lord split ya."

1) "He who hasn't learned from the brutal stompings of the past, is due to be brutally stomped in the future"--Hunter S Thompson

2) This ain't example of a 'brutal stomping'

I got a warning because I posted a WTS/WTT and already had a WTS on the same board. Actually, the old post had been around a while and I had given it a bump not long before. In my older age, I forget things rather easily and I had honestly forgotten about the earlier post.

Well, My Bad, I owned up, appologized for the oversight, changed the post, and life goes on.

I really like this forum and appreciate the opportunity to visit here and contribute once it a while.

Thanks.

Well, I got a warning for creative spelling, and that was OK...it is the rule. I got a...well, not warning, but two messages about my ads, and that was OK...the rules are clearly stated and I just wasn't thinking.

One thing I did disagree with was a post of mine was edited because of a comment I made about another forum...the intent of the moderator was to spare Lee any embarrassment. This I didn't agree with initially, because free speech in America is supposed to be free...then I realized that this isn't America! Like others have said, when you are in a man's house, you follow his rules or leave. That is what I expect of anyone in my house, and how I behave in someone else's house. So, I got over it.

This is a great forum, and I do like the tone here compared to some out there...but at the end of the day, it is just the internet, not life. If you like it here, fine...if not, don't log in. It's not that complicated! :)

I've been banned, reprimanded, deleted, and edited so many times I can't count. Not to mentioned being kicked off for a week. So to avoid that happening again right now, all I have to say is, "So, how 'bout those S.F. Giants, huh?!"
