Grabbed a new 442

Well, the reloads are perfect so I can proceed making ammo. :D I popped a few 110gr Critical Defense rapid fire into the hill as well. Fast fire and it's minute of bad guy all day long. I may get another revolver just because I'm liking this so much.

I carry a 642 daily in a Mika pocket holster. He makes what I believe are the best pocket holsters available. Could be worth checking out. Congrats on the new acquisition!

Thanks, I'm really liking it. So, tell me about the Mika holster. I have a Remora and a Sticky, both good holsters, but neither will stay put when I draw. I'm generally a belt holster guy when I'm on the bike or in the woods, but I find more often I just drop it in a pocket. Having something that actually works would be nice.

Mika’s are some of the highest rated j frame holsters you can buy. I wish mine was better. Not real crazy about it. The gun goes too deep in it and the outer opening of the holster interferes with getting a good purchase on the stocks. Also it’s VERY slick inside and is super fast on the draw. When I’m at work the gun is in a backpack and it can fall out if not sitting upright. The desantis is “stickier” inside. They both have their place. Different pants pockets require each. The Mika is round cut and the desantis is square.

Thanks for the reply. I got the urge and went ahead and ordered one. I am amazed already, not a minute after I placed my order, I got a phone call from him. He verified my order, made sure he knew what gun it was for, explained his lead time, and ask if there were any other questions he could answer. That's a guy who truly cares about his customers. :D

I bought my first Mika pocket holster when he was LAPD and selling them out of an add in Police magazine for $5. I touted it to other cops and got him a few orders. When it came time to get a 3” one he sent it to me for free for the referrals. I still have it and it fits my Glock 43 just fine. Crude compared to the ones he makes now but functional.

I have a couple 642s. #1 was shot quite a bit, even shot an IDPA match with it. #1 has a lock, #2 doesn't. Both have worked as they should. Shoot to point of aim with 158 Grain and close enough with 125s. They do recoil a bit. I have some 158 lead HPs, Hornady I think. Recoil causes bullet jump. Last I loaded was in GI brass, I think its gonna work, It do recoil. They are both smooth with no action work other than shooting quite a bit.

Went to the range and sent a few rounds down range yesterday. The ammo was Magtech 158gr LRN. The little J performed as expected however, I think a different set of grips may be in order. Unless I held it with a death grip, I got some pretty painful trigger slap. It really kind of surprised me. With a really firm grip and a lot of finger on the trigger, it was mitigated pretty well. I have a set of Pachmayer compact grips I may try to see if they help me get a handle on this. I understood from the beginning that airweight revolvers brought this to the table, so not unexpected. I'll work with it and figure it out.

I shoot precision one 148gr plated wadcutters in mine and the recoil is no problem. Very easy and fun to shoot. Accurate too. Only downside is cost. About .60 cents a pop

I bought a 442 back in 1997. It was my back up piece in a Mika pocket holster. A fellow officer who was one of the armorers and a shade tree gunsmith slicked up the action. The trigger is like glass. She’s looking quite worn these days but so am I.

Kramer leather is top notch too. I bought an IWB Kramer holster. It has the wool backing. It reminds me of the old time wooly cowboy chaps. Very very comfortable. I own my share of kydex but that Kramer is the cat’s pajamas. Only drawback is re holstering but I’m not handcuffing people these days so putting it back in a holster quickly isn’t a big concern. Enjoy that 442 with no lock as God intended.

Altamonts worked for me

I don't have huge hands, but the factory grips didn't allow me to get a firm grasp on the gun. Altamont basket weave let me have a place for my pinky. I feel more confident during the draw as well as having better control of recoil.

I really like mine. Carry OWB in a Tactical Gun Leather holster.
He goes by tritech012014 also. Very nice lined holster for a great price.

The Mika arrived today. It's not a Kramer, but it fits as it should and it does what it's supposed to do. I've spent a lot more money on higher end holsters that don't work as well as this does. Good job Robert Mika.

Be sure to give it about a month in the pocket to form to the gun. It will fit like a glove after that.
