Grip experts, please help. 66 3-inch needs some proper shoes.

Hi folks,

I was fortunate to add a long sought-after gun to my modest collection, but would like some help finding the original style of grip with which it shipped.


It looks to be an RSR from the 1988 run, shipped in late 1989. The Eagle grips on it, while spectacular, aren't factory. These are my first set of true Sambar grips, and they have a very pleasing 'coke-bottle' shape to them.


Can anyone identify what should be on this gun as shipped?

Based on the SPEC ORD number on the box, your revolver was manufactured on September 30th of 1989

Personally I would not worry about what it shipped with, that setup is beautiful

Standard wood checkered Goncalo Alves is how it left the factory kinda of like this one

Magna Grips

I would say that it shipped with S&W Magna grips w/ S&W medallion. It may be possible that it was shipped with Uncle Mike's combat?? But I'm thinking the magnas.

I agree with Colt_SAA, keep it like it is. Maybe fine an original pair to go with it to keep in the box.

I came in here to say the same thing... Are those "Stags" you have on her now with a matching "Nickel Brushed" Tyler-T???

That is a most comfortable and close to perfect set-up if not as perfect as it gets what you have now... That "combo" is all I'd ever want on her. Those Goncalo Alves that Colt_SAA posted as well are gluttonously beautiful truthfully however. I'd be tickled to have the Revo and either pair truth be told... You have a lovely set-up OP!

You would be hard pressed to find anything that looks better than what you now have on your revolver. Very nice!

My 66-2 is a tad shorter, but I like these Herrett stocks on it. Also have a set that I created for my 10-5 {modified Herretts} . Bob
