I went down to the local Raley's food store to pick up a Rib steak for a bbq meal tonight, for the wife and I.

When I went to the meat counter and saw the prices they were asking, I deceided on selecting a lower priced peice of meat.

I can't beleive I paid $12.99 a pould for a stinking New York steak.

1.86 pounds for 2 small NY steaks for $24.16.

They wanted $18.99 a pound for the Rib eye.

I will be looking at chicken and fish on my next trip to the store !!

I bought a nice Rib Roast not long ago. It was 6 dollars a pound. Cut 4steaks off cut the ribs off(BBQ'd em). We had a steak last night. Surprise Surprise! I figured the meat would be a piece of All Natural Grass Fed Organic Montana/Wyoming grown Beef! Translated that means TOUGH!I was surprised to find it was a nice piece of marbled tender well finished steak. A month or so ago I bought an ungraded boneless Rib Roast at WinCo in Billings. One of the best roasts we've had in years. Wife said it was 4.99 A pound. I always buy a roast to cut a few steaks off....but I cut a lot of meat in the past

The other thing I noticed is you used to be able to buy a 4 or 6 pack of eggs. Nice if you don't need a dozen. They don't have any. A dozen is the smallest amount they have.

Went to the local butcher shop and decided to splurge on 2 ribeyes. Right around 2LBS -$45.

Now all of you realize that we Americans just need to lower our expectations.

As mentioned above it pays to understand the different cuts of meat and how you can get a pretty decent steak out of a rib roast etc.

I play golf with an ex-butcher shop owner, and he has given me some good advice on cuts of meat.

He got out of it because the wholesale prices were getting so high for the smaller shops he couldn't compete with the chains. He was the 3rd generation owner. Kinda sad really.

I have to admit that I usually look at ALL the "Flyers" from all the stoes in the area on wensday, to see what the best prices are on all the items plus
any "Specials" that save you 50% or more on mayo, butter, meats etc.

Just that tonight was a spur of the moment with the flyers in the mail box
when I got home.

I just got back from shooting my 9mm and 357 loads for my "Final" test for
best accuracy of my old and standard loads, to close my books on developing loads, in my "Silver years".

No big thing.

However I have a hankering for some Chinese wings with lots of garlic, ginger and Hoisin sauce, in my chinese wok pan, to ease the pain !!

Did something tonight I haven't done in years. I bought a box of hamburger helper at the discount out of date store. 75 cents. Cooked up 8 ounces of burger. 1/2 of normal. Wife and I ate some for din-din.Was it great? Nah but filled the hole. Guess I can go another 35 years before I do it again.

You know those "Helpers" come in different flavors , right ?

Plus there is also rice instead of noodles.

Maybe try the noodles, if'n you like tuna fish. :D

When I got home to look at the flyers

Save Mart ( Albertson's) had T Bone at $ 6.98 a pound.

How can two stores be so diferent in prices over a lousy beef steak?

Why does on store charge twice the amont for beef ?

I know local and rent etc. may rise prices but, HELLOW !!

Just glad that we all can select what store we go to to buy food items................
after we look at the flyers, to maybe save 10-$40 on a trip to the store for just a "Quick" outting.

Because of the loonies that have taken over Colorado....
We now have to pay $6.00 for a dozen eggs.
The chickens must have adequate room, cuz according to those that pushed this legislation, chickens have feelings too.

Yep....Free-Range Chickens!

You can look it up for yourself folks cuz I could never make this up without the help of an award winning fiction writer.

What's funny is here the cage-free eggs are cheaper than the caged ones.
