My father in law passed away last spring and has some very large gun collections that are supposedly in museums somewhere but we are not sure where. Any idea how we could find them?

We may have to go by process of elimination if you have no other info. I was in Paris last spring so I can tell you they are not in the Louvre.

First off don't be put off by some members attempts at humour.

All I can do is state the obvious - read every scrap of paper in his home for clues.

Also, ask at any gun shops he may have frequented and any gun clubs/gun collector groups he may have belonged to.

Were any guns actually donated or just loaned? If some were donated there may be something in his tax records regarding a charitable donation.

I've checked with the curator of the "Bayou Teche Opra, Ballet, Perloo & Messing Around Society and Museum of the Strange and Exotic" and he doesn't have them.
He does however have a large albino Iguana that he is willing to let out on loan cause it won't quit eating his grapefruits and keeps knocking over the lawn ornaments (thinks they're the neighborhood kids)

That is why we love the Lord's prayer - Thy kingdom come, Thy WILL be done.

I would agree that he was probable using the donation or loan as a tax deduction. Sort all paperwork carefully. Good Luck.

That was funny!

In the humorous posters defense, it was a pretty weak starter. Where did the information come from that he had collections in museums? What's the reason there's no paper trail?

Reminds me of the posts, "I have this old S&W, can you tell me when it was made, the name of the guy at the factory who shipped it, and what it's worth?" - and that's it!

If you want information, need to let us know what you already know. How about the father-in-laws' name? If he's a famous collector, a rich guy like rburg might know of him.

His name was Charles weiskopf. From what I understand he had one of the biggest privately owned Winchester collections in the country Other then that I don't know what to tell you. He was wealthy but very simple in the way he lived he just liked his guns. He was also a life time NRA member. And from what I understand was a national champion at some sort of shooting competition in the mid 80s. As I find out more I will try to keep it posted on here. Thanks for any and all help.

I do believe I remember reading his name under some pics as being courtesy of his collection. I think I saw it in some coffee table editions. You may be able to contact the authors if it turns out to be correct.

Good luck in your search. Please keep us posted.

The NRA National Firearms Museum has no record of any loans or donations of firearms by a Charles Weiskopf. Hope that helps. - Jim
