Did y'all know that the President granted a staffer authority to utilize the "auto-pen" to sign this bill extending the Patriot Act into law? He is the first sitting President to not do so in person. What sort of precedent is this going to set? Our President was in Europe at the time the bill was signed via auto-pen into law. Constitutionally, bills are to be signed in-person and in the presence of witnesses. Where is the furor over this change in protocol?
Our Congressman from GA-9 sent his constituents an e-mail telling of this change in policy. He is only one of thirty to vote against extension of the Act. He has requested a response from the President as to why protocol was changed. He has not received a reply from the President or the auto-pen.
