Gun shop find, 686 3''

Welcome aboard.
That product code lists a 3 inch, 7 shot, bead blast finish, unfluted cylinder. The CDJ4XXX is correct to that revolver.
I have never noticed one of these before. Not sure how rare it is, but I like it.
Is that a dash 5 (located on the frame when you open the cylinder, 686-?)

Wow you know your S&W. Yes - 5 it is.

Thanks for all the comments.

If I had found this a year ago I might not have bought all those Sig Sauers, not that owning 3 Sigs is a bad thing...

Welcome to the forum! Great find, I have not seen one of those. I would have paid that for it and then some. YA DONE GOOD!

I have a 3" non fluted 629-5 and it is one of my favorites. Your 3" 686 is a beauty. I think you would have regrettit it if you let that one slip away.

Welcome to the forum.
That's one of the 3" 686 variations I do not have.
If you ever decide to part with it I have some neat trade options!
Congrats!

Another pic. Some people are telling me its a limited run? The box label does say Spec. Ord. 0229 ?

The gunshops near me only sell new stuff. The pawn shops sell crap. Nothing like this. Very nice.

I just love the simplicity, reliability and quality, much like you do. I know most others here are appreciative of it as well.

At first I was thinking I made a mistake by buying it, after all the comments Im very glad I did and now almost afraid to shoot it, but Im sure I'll get over that part.

Thank you all.

Ohhh la la! I would have instantly dropped the money for it. In fact if I ever see one like it I will pony up. Nice find!

Very nice looking piece, I think you did just fine on it. You can bet that you won't ever lose money on it.
Can't wait to hear how it shoots!

Thanks all... planning a shoot at lunch today but may end up taking my elderly mother to the Dr. She has COPD.

If you smoke, stop. If you don't, never start.

That is a beautiful wheel gun. I have a 2.5" 686-4 and LOVE it, but a 3" is on my wish list. One day, I want a 3" CS-1, but then again... don't we all?

I love three inch K/L frames. I have a 3 inch CS-1, a Three inch 66-2, a 65-2 and a 65-5. I am still looking for a 64 three inch.......

Nice find and well worth the money. I have a 3 inch CS-1 that is a great shooter. 3 Inch barrels are beginning to be my favorite length. I guess its because its long enough to have good accuracy, short enough to conceal easily and they just look mean. I have 2 unfluted 629s. a 686 like yours would compliment them really well.

Realy nice gun!

That non-fluted cylinder looks great on that gun.
