Gun Storage in Another State

SCCY CPX2, cheap and works like a wheelgun. Lotsa cars, they're unlikely to pick yours.

Back in college my friend had a 20 gauge in the dorm. He hung it in the closet between his clothes on a hanger. Security got wind of it, searched his room, but did not find it. He said one cop actually pushed it aside as he was looking into the back of the closet.
Just sayin'.

I am in the leave it home camp. I go a lot of places I can not carry a gun. The risk of attack is small compared to the risk of theft imo.

Had an AR hanging in a coat rack by the door for years. Handgun in dirty laundry works to.

Don't over think it, just do this. Travel to the terminal and back safe and secure, it is not like it is painted on the side of your car that there is a gun inside , is it? There are hundreds of cars at these terminals, why pick yours to break into?...

That's what I would do. You can disassemble the gun and store parts in different places around the car. Probably not worth the trouble. Unload it, lock it up, and don't worry. Take something common and/or inexpensive. If you're going to worry, leave it at home.

I agree with taking an inexpensive gun, buying a car safe,$25.00 or so, and use the cable to secure it under the seat. I do it often.
Enjoy your trip.

So I am taking a five day cruise. No guns on the boat, obviously. I will drive 11 hours to a coastal city and embark. My car will be parked for five days. I hate the idea of leaving a gun in a car but I don't like driving around without a gun.

All states between me and the coast are "free states."

Any great ideas?

If you are going out of Florida, you can't even bring a gun onto the port premises, let alone leave it there. I would bet that is the same for any port, as they fall under HS regulations.

So find a bank and rent a safety deposit box or leave it at home.

I have sailed out of NYC twice on Canadian cruises. Even though I am covered by LEOSA, I left all firearms at home for the drive through NJ into NYC. I even shook down the vehicle to ensure there were no loose rounds anywhere. I don't want to be a test case. No issues and had a great time on both trips.

I didn't read the whole post. This would be easy if you carry a semi auto. Buy a small gun safer or Two. Disassemble the semi auto, store part in the safe, part In a locked glovebox or another safe. Just a thought. I use a safe and 2 little lockboxs called secur-it. The secur-it's fit under the back seat in my SUV. They have a cable that goes around the frame. It's hard enough to figure out how to get the seat up let alone thinking anything may be under it. The safe is in the back of the car. It has 1 box of ammo in it. If someone breakers in they would find it, no problem. Never guessing anything was under the back seat. (I hope)

Secure it in the car. I have used a lock box and handcuffed or bike locked it to the car. A padlock with a long shank can be used through a barrel, cylinder, or slide to disable an unloaded pistol so that a thief can not immediately use it. When traveling and going out for adult beverages, I have hidden pistols in hotel rooms with the barrel removed and placed in the car so that a thief wouldn't be able to immediately use the weapon. There are also many places in vehicles that will completely hide a small pistol.

This reminds me of the woman, who was killed by an illegal immigrant. He broke into a car and stole an officer's gun.

Making an investment of a small gun safe now will make future trips less worrisome.

Myself, I have a Liberty HDX 250 in my RV. I actually bolted it down in my bedroom closet.

No safe is 100% foolproof but having one makes it less appealing. Scumbags primarily go for the "low-hanging fruit".

Have a great time!

A gun magnet. My Glock 23 loaded, the magnet holds it just fine.
Two small screws mounts anywhere. the magnet is 11/2" L 3/4" W
and wrap in what looks like nylon with two metal screw holes. Found it on ebay, now I'm looking for more. VERY handy. The name is GO-Magnet

I'd leave it at home. Odds are against it but if someone gets a hold of it and uses in a crime-- some lawyer is going to find you. Not worth it. Just my opinion.

I have wrapped mine up in a clean diaper, put it in a plastic bag so you could tell it was what looked like a dirty diaper in the bag. I don't know of ANYONE that is willing to look in there. I do similar things with anything that I want to get rid of and would like to minimize the chance it will be discovered.

I wouldn't leave a gun in the center console (locked or not) or under the seat. That's the first place thieves will look, and it isn't hard to force the console or glove box open... You'll only end up with more damage if someone breaks into your car IMHO...

What I do is usually put mine pistol in my trunk under the floor board under the spare tire. Me personally, I'd then leave my glove box and center console empty and wide open for theives to see, and to make my car less desirable...
