Gun Storage in Another State

Secure it in the car. I have used a lock box and handcuffed or bike locked it to the car. A padlock with a long shank can be used through a barrel, cylinder, or slide to disable an unloaded pistol so that a thief can not immediately use it. When traveling and going out for adult beverages, I have hidden pistols in hotel rooms with the barrel removed and placed in the car so that a thief wouldn't be able to immediately use the weapon. There are also many places in vehicles that will completely hide a small pistol.

For those who are suggesting a lockbox, how difficult is it to disengage and simply take the entire box? I can't imagine that these small boxes which are secured in a car with a simple chain or wiring will take longer than a minute or so for theives to get into or take altogether. Seems like it might deter a quick smash and grab, but will only give you a faulse sense of security in situations where theives know you're going to be away from the vehicle for an extended period of time.

I'd leave it at home. Odds are against it but if someone gets a hold of it and uses in a crime-- some lawyer is going to find you. Not worth it. Just my opinion.

Can someone provide proof that this has ever happened? Where someone got charged or sued for their stolen property being used in a crime? I'm willing to bet it has never happened.

I lock a gun in my vehicle every single day. I can't carry at work so it stays in the truck. I don't even think twice about doing this. If some moron commits 2 felonies to steal it that is his problem not mine.

Why is leaving a gun in a vehicle such a controversial idea? I'm with the OP, I wouldn't drive across 5 states without a gun either. Easy enough, I'd just lock it in the dash when I got there and forget about it until I returned.
