If I am reading gunbroker's website correctly (pasted below), if a private seller is selling an antique which can be shipped directly to me, I still have to pay sales tax?

"Marketplace Facilitator Laws require GunBroker.com to collect and remit sales tax on all sales by its sellers into GunBroker.com MPF States, regardless of whether the seller is an individual, a company, or a business."

As a seller you need only remit to that State the tax collected when the total reaches $1000.

GB charges sales tax on every sale that goes through their marketplace, whether the seller is required to collect it or not. There are a myriad of requirements depending on the state, and the seller, but they collect it for all transactions.

They also automatically pay the tax to the state, but then send monthly statements to sellers letting them know how much they owe for sales tax for all of their sales over the past month.

So, a typical transaction will include sales tax in the total (unless you have your GB account set up to be tax exempt). Buyer pays the sales tax to the seller as part of the purchase. GB sends the amount to the appropriate state. GB then sends the seller a monthly statement for all the sales tax from their purchases, which the seller then has to pay to GB.

What happens to the sales tax collected for the states with no sales tax? If they do. NOMAD.

When I buy ammo from Target Sports I pay 7.5% sales tax shipped to my house and 4% when shipped to my son's house in Colorado. I have no idea where that $$ goes. Joe

If I buy items from Cabela's or Scheel's I have the item shipped to the store in Montana...pick it up and no tax. I just bought a progressive reloading machine shipped to Billings Scheel's. Where I live in Wy... I get to pay 5% tax on online sales...the tax is supposed to be 4%...but I am right on the county line...literally
