My 3 year old Heritage safe has always been a bit finicky-didn`t always open on the first try- , but lately it has needed to have the combination entered 3 times before it would open, and sometimes not even then.

I was really concerned that it was going to die on me and leave all my treasures locked beyond my reach forever, or cost a fortune to have a locksmith destroy my safe to get it open.

It has a electronic key pad type lock. I called the good folks at Heritage and even though the safe was out of warrantee the good Miss Carol agreed to send me a new lock .

It arrived safely and quickly and then I had to teach myself how to remove and install a lock on a safe. After worrying about it for a day or so , and watching youtube tutorials, I finally dove in and guess what??? It aint so bad of a job and its done and working perfectly.

So now I can brag I`m an amateur Lock Smith, and my treasures are safe and accessible again.

Have you considered converting to a S&G rotary lock. You could not give me, free of charge, a safe with an electronic key pad lock, made by any maker in the US of A if I had to keep and use it. My. S&G has been opened many, many times in the past 24 years and never one single problem. I just think the public is being sold a bunch of BS on the electronic key pad locks. Just my opinion.

This may come as a surprise, but Miss Carol knows their locks are awful, and they probably send those things out like Citi sends out credit card offers. As stated above, nothing beats a quality mechanical combination lock. Mine's been working longer than LittleCooner's . . .

My gun safe problem is slightly different than yours & I'm afraid it is going to cost me slightly more to correct. I take no comfort in the fact my problem is similar to 99% of all other gun safe owners.

When I put all my guns inside, I can't get the door shut :(
