Handgun Permit waiting time

Where I live we have to wait till New Jersey freezes over — and if by chance a miracle happened and a permit was issued, after two years it would expire and you would have to wait till forever all over again.

I'm in Wisconsin. Got my renewal notice in June though my permit is good until mid September. Everything is online now, nothing in the letter about mailing in a check. Did it online mid July. Had my new permit in 8 days.

I applied for a non-resident CWL from Florida in February.

It was allegedly issued on July 29. I say allegedly since it is not yet in my hands.

The department that handles this is headed by a Democrat, and I have no doubt she is slow walking everything she can. They halted processing my application after 89 days (they have 90 days by law) claiming it was incomplete. It was not. I sent them a response demonstrating that it was NOT incomplete and that I had met all of the requirements. It took them nearly another 60 days to finally issue the CWL.

Since the halting and delay was bogus, I have no doubt it was an intentional political move to slow walk. I would not be surprised if they send it to me by the slowest means possible. It probably will take 2 or more weeks just to make it out of their mail room.

My experience was very different. I thought my FL non-resident permit was going to get hung up because my local Sheriff Dept only had the FBI fingerprint card, and they scan electronically onto that card. I emailed the commissioner lady directly, and she passed it so someone, who passed it to someone else who called me.

There's no place on the back to put the info FL wanted. I sent it in and they accepted it with just my writing the info on the back wherever it could fit.

63 calendar days, or 44 business days since I filled out the online form.
56 calendar days, or 39 business days since mailing the fingerprint card. (I filled out the online form then waited a week or so before getting the fingerprint card in the mail).

All in all, I should have just gotten the AZ non-resident. Gets you one more state I think and costs less.

Took me 10 months to get my IL FOID (Firearms Owners Identification) card and then another 5 months to get my CCL.

Thank God for New Mexico. No purchase nor possession permits exist; if you want to carry concealed on your property or in your car, fine - no permit required. Concealed carry elsewhere requires a permit, which is fairly easy to acquire.

I dropped off my CCW renewal form at the courthouse on the 2nd of August. Got it in the mail today. Cost was $15 for 5 years. Actually, I'm exempt from the fee, due to being a retired LEO, but I don't mention it. The county needs the money.

I also have my LEOSA letter and a lifetime CCW from Alabama. I think I'm covered.
