Hanen Special Model 14-2 4”

Yes, think of a bull barrel model 10 with a tall (Target height) front sight base and ramp blade.

Here are a few Hanens

The 2 nickel are sequential #

Amazing story, love the revolver. Appears by the ad that it follows the combat lineage of the 15. I wonder why it was not called a 15 heavy combat or something.

To me, when I hear 14, I think target gun, but with this all dressed up to fight, I'm confused!

Hey Keith

The 2 nickels did ship with target hammer and pc stocks. These are period correct but not original (letter does not indicate diamonds tho) …when I got the 2 they both had aftermarket grips.
I just happened to have these stocks handy

Both guns shipped in the 2nd lot to Dayton. 8/16/65
K624382 & K624383

Thx !

mchom, interesting that the two nickels are TH,TT but not RR, but they all have PC stocks. Great pic thank you for showing.

Did they make any of these with a patridge front sight?
I have a 4" Model 14-3 with a Model 10 HB and patridge front sight that I believe was put together by the LAPD armory. It is DAO with a gold bead. I just picked up what looks like an original Hanen Special, but is a 14-3 with a 1K… serial, ramp front sight and matching magnas.

Interesting gun. The front sight pin kinda' tells a story.

Having SW OCD the thought crossed my mind what it would have been named if it had existed before model numbers.
In general the 4" length K frame target sight guns were originally referred to as the "Combat" Masterpiece or Combat Magnum.
The frame is 100% common with the Model 14 to 14-4.
That frame became the Model 15 frame in the dash 5 revision years later.
The original wide rib 6" K38 was called the "Heavy Masterpiece" to differentiate it from the narrow rib barrel rib / notched frame version ( same frame as model 15/18).
The barrel used for the Hanen special is larger in diameter but has a much thinner raised rib with no rib grooves on the top , these were referred to as "Heavy barrels" on the Model 10.
That being said it could be called a 14-2 Heavy barrel Combat Masterpiece.
There are some pics on post 48 in this thread.

Dnater, you "LAPD" gun probably came from the era 71-72, when all primary duty guns had to be made into 4". Some barrels were cutdown and a model 17 sight added, kind of like the "AFPG" guns that I have seen. Others had older model 10 barrels, that have a pinned front sight, added and the same model 17 patridge sight, like your gun. Some kept their 6"barrels and just had a model 15 barrel exchanged.

A couple of the older armorers had the same set up as your gun, when I went inside there to work. Made a nice shooting gun. Did it to my model 67. The frame to barrel match up isn't as nice as it is to a model 14, but is a good shooter, and I can always change it back.

Some years later ( when Gates took over) the 4" policy was changed and issued weapons were 4" but 6" gun were put back on the approved list.

Interesting revolver ( Im guessing they are actually 67-1's by lack of barrel pin?)
but Im trying to figure out why you changed your model 67 front ramp on the lower one as the Model 67 ( unlike its blue counterpart) AFAIK was only offered in the 4" barrel length so cutting a 6" down was not an issue,
Also by the time the 67 was introduced the barrel and ramp were one piece,
Did you have to mill the factory ramp off?

No, it's actually a bull barrel from a model 64. The early ones had a pinned short ramp sight. Just removed it and replaced it with a sight off of a model 17. The top 67-1 I did a barrel switch on it when I found a barrel that someone had milled off the front sight and replaced it with a blued RR sight. Made for a much better sight picture.

Using a Model 64 HB is actually very interesting,
You basicly created a sort of SS Hanen.
One hurtle is that the 67/ 67-1 frames are notched to mate to the narrow rib 67 barrel.
The later Model 67-3 actually had a thick wide rib barrel like the model 14 and no frame notches but if the 64 hb is the same as the Mod 10 hb it would be slightly heavier.
