So laying in bed reading one of my forums and the blink ( camera) for front door goes off. Then the one in the driveway goes off. I look and there is a guy turning knob and knocking on apt door ( mother in law sweet). So me my 4 legged friend and our 15 rounds head to see what up. Well this guy had come to buy a radio he saw in my garage sale at 10 am this morning. It was was 21:50. My l4 legged friend wasn't happy he had to stay inside and I don't think the fool as happy to see my little friends. Not sure what the guy was thinking. If in violation of the rules I apologize

What exactly did this guy do that justified you showing him your gun?

How about he was beating on the door and trying the doorknob of a residence where he does not belong, at nearly 10PM? What if the door had been inadvertently left unlocked, would he have just walked in? OP has every reason to believe the intruder had nefarious intent!

DON'T come around my house under similar circumstances, you will be greeted in the same fashion!

In the last 18 years, I have had one other person show up that late or later and he was trying to hide from the police. That was probably 14 years ago. So to say the least it's a very rare occurrence. Technically he is the first to come to the door. The other kid was trying to hide car in driveway. Imagine his surprise when I gave him his official no trespassing warning in writing next day in my jailer uniform. Now when someone comes to the front door of the main house doesn't ring the doorbell or knock loud enough to alert one of the 3 dogs in the house. Then goes to the apartment door ( separate house same property) I am going to check it out. I'm not doing it unarmed. I never brought my pistol up away from my side, pointed it in his direction or waved it in the air. But my attire no shirt, loose athletic shorts ( as mentioned I was in bed reading before going to bed no lights on in the house) provided a place to place the pistol. Also it wasn't me that spoke with him at the garage sell even if I had been not sure I would have recognized him. If he hadn't mentioned the stereo. I wouldn't have known why he was there.
As for the rules I did read them, I didn't see anything that suggested I couldn't post but it wouldn't be the first time I misread or just plan skipped

/sarc Buying radio. At 2200. Riiiight. /sarc off

Telecaster & Pilgrim are on point.

No issue with your approach. If I were in that situation and saw someone trying to enter (turning knob), I'd get weapons, call 911 (attempted break-in), set off the Blink alarm, observe the idiot on the Blink cam, then confront only if necessary. You can always call off the police response, but having backup en route is a good thing. I've used the Blink intercom a few times… nothing untoward, but does get the "visitor" attention.

"Have people lost all sense?" implies they possessed some to begin with.

You are correct, it does carry that implication.
It seems to be a matter of 'timing'......
Time was that I didn't even lock my doors. That was decades ago when people had a fair amount of respect for other people and their stuff. (I remember those days fondly.)
Time is now that few people have respect for much of anything, and that is the reality that we must deal with today and tomorrow.
For those of us 70 years old (+/-), I suggest that we lived and grew up during the best of times. I feel bad that the current crop will not experience life as we had it.
Now, if we could figure out what we did wrong, perhaps there would be an opportunity to fix it a bit.....
