I have:

380 w/ laser
Shield 9mm

So I have my pocket carry covered and my everyday carry with the shield.

I am looking for a primary home defense handgun. One with my capacity. i do however, want to keep with the 9mm caliber so I can keep my ammo supply more universal.

Any opinions maybe with one you have that you prefer over the other? Or what are you, yourself, are looking/ wanting to get.

Any advice would help. I'm simply thinking full size M&P 9mm.

M&P FS 9mm would fit the bill. I have a FS M&P .40 with one of the new Spartan lasers on the rail.
By far my favorite gun.
642-Crimson laser
shield 9
FS .40
It's my HD gun and by far my favorite to shoot at the range.

M&P 9c?

Just bought a set of twins myself. One for the second floor and the other for the first floor, garage and basement. Working either gun in the dark is kept safe and simple by having the same controls and functions in the same location on each gun. Same with spare mags, each has a FS mag next to it on the shelf.

BTW...No kids living in the house and when company is expected, everything gets collected and locked up until they leave. If they stay over, one of us will CC without them knowing a thing.

Y'all be safe

I've looked into this quite a bit lately because, while I don't have a pocket carry (Not looking for one, tbh), I have my EDC Shield 9mm and the same ammo concerns. My research has turned up 2 guns that I've shot and liked. One is the Glock 19 and the other is the Taurus PT-111 G2. Right now, I'm leaning towards the G2 because of the price point. The Glock is...well a Glock, but you can buy 2 G2's for the price of one G19.

I won't be able to buy for a while, got a few other things going on, and by the time it's over, I'll probably end up with the Glock.

Your thinking is right. Get a FS M&P 9. I have 2 I keep for home protection, well actually one is a 40 with Storm Lake 9 conversion.

They just run. ;)

I want to buy my buddies FS .40, he isn't letting it go though.

my first MP was a compact 9 which i still have; i do like the flex it has that i can run a full size mag thru it and if someone wanted an all around versatile model this may be my suggestion. But as you already have the Shield for carry, i then would suggest the full size MP. I picked one up last summer when they had a free mag promo; and love the thing. I am a tad more accurate with it over the compact, it feels perfect in my hand (more "balanced" than the compact perhaps?), and is just plain fun to shoot.
It would be the one i'd use for HD, walking around the family property with, and so on.....

I think it would be hard to do a lot better than the full size M&P 9. That would be my pick for a home defense pistol.

BUT... have you considered getting an AR for you home defense gun? Here's an article for your perusal.
The AR for Home Defense: One Expert's Opinion

An M&P 15 Sport or Sport II makes an excellent home defense gun and they don't cost much more than a pistol.

The CZ 75 D PCR looks like it would double duty as a SD/HD choice. The 75 family is renowned for dependability and accuracy, important traits in a defense choice.

CZ-USA CZ 75 D PCR Compact - CZ-USA

I have the 75B, and the low bore-axis all-steel frame, and ergo grip, make it a joy to shoot. The 75 SP-01 has an accessory rail if you want a tactical light.

I would suggest either the 9c or 40c .. you would be able to carry those pistols relatively easy as they can be hidden well at 5:30 or a 1 in a good holster .. beside being a good home defense pistol .. I have the 40c and a 9mm conversion barrel and also a 357 Sig barrel you just need a few 9mm mags for 9mm shooting .. I like the fact you can drop either in according to ammo availability with the 40c .. but with the 9c you can't go to the 40 or 357 ammo .. with the M&P's all the extended mags fit any of them except the Shield which is a great feature also ..

The suggestion of an AR is a good one. Keep the Shield on the night stand for something to grab if you wake to someone in your room, and get the AR or a short shotgun for going to see what's bumping in the night.

But the question was about a pistol. I really love my 5" Pro Series and keep it as my bedroom gun with a Streamlight on the rail. It's a fun gun on the range too.

When I "discovered" the Shield, I gave up on my Glocks (which I never loved that much except the reliability part) and am all in for M&P, not the least because they have the same grip angle as a 1911 which points most naturally to me. I always had to cant my wrist funny to get the sights to align on the Glocks. Having a house gun and a carry gun that both point the same is, IMO, an advantage.

I have a Remington 870 shotty as well. Also have the 15-22 but those two are normally locked away. Right now I just keep my shield bedside but would rather have a 9mm full size handgun (more capacity) next to me bedside. I know that I should just throw my shotgun bedside but it's kinda tacky and I don't have big enough furniture to hide it in plain sight.

This is why I was thinking full sized handgun bedside.

I will soon be getting the Sport. Very soon actually but rather not have that bedside. I want a handgun in nightstand over rifle awkwardly sitting or laying bedside.

That's what I do. My Shield on the nightstand and the Sport in the closet nearby but out of sight.
