having breakfast with my grandson this morning

I hope that was not a hard frozen, Eggo!!

I was doing real good with scrambled eggs when I was young, until some jerk head put some ketchup on them !

Now I have up graded to HOT sauce !!

Was that real maple syrup or Mrs Butterworth, on that waffle?

When I was a youngster, it was, Log Cabin.

...When I was a youngster, it was, Log Cabin.

Me, too. Did you have the tin container shaped like a log cabin where you had to unscrew the cap on the chimney, and then punch a hole in the top to get the syrup out? That was always fun for a kid. Today's plastic bottles are functional but dull in comparison.

Ed, when I was young Log Cabin was a treat. During the Great Depression of the '30's was a tough time. Pancakes were a main staple. If my dad & Grandpa hit a pocket of gold the store in town weighed the gold & traded it for supplies, food, clothing, etc. Log Cabin was low on the list.

So back home and he is in school/daycare now. Today was the first time I was alone with him without wife or anyone else to hand off so it was all on me. After breakfast and getting him dressed it was off to school. I put him in the truck and buckled him in. Had to go back to the house to get his Buckee's hat.
Driving to school when the following conversation took place:
Hey Jed!
What?
I have a booger.
Is it in your nose or on your finger?
In my nose.
I'll take care of it when we get to school.
But it is bothering me. (about this time, I'm wondering why he just doesn't pick his nose and eat the booger like most three year olds do).
I want a kleenex.
I don't have any buddy-just hold on we're almost at school.
I got it!
Don't wipe it on anything!
Finally I get to school, find an old napkin to wipe his nose and finger.
I look at his hands, nothing.
What did you do with it?
I wiped it on this-points to the fleece lining of my vest lying next to the car seat.
At this point it was just well.... **** it! :)
Got him into school, everyone shouted his name and I stood in the door totally forgotten.
Stopped by Starbucks and treated myself to a Venti Latte and enjoyed a nice ride back to court to sign orders . He is coming over to spend the night tonight and we are going out on the boat tomorrow.

Brother, you're breakin' my heart!

I want to be a grandpa more than ANYTHING.

I'd love to have a grandson to tell me how breakfast should be served, even if he wipes his snotty little nose on my favorite vest.

Consider yourself incredibly blessed.

I probably won't live long enough to be anybody's grandpa, and if I do I will be very thankful.

Sorry, I'm not trying to criticize - just saying how much that I ENVY you.

Enjoy it while you can...

100% real Maple. Me, I'd a gone with Log Cabin

I believe that grandkids are the way the Lord blesses us for putting up with raising our kids. Miss Judy and I have 16 grandchildren and most live within 1½ hours from us. The oldest is 25 now, is married, and lives with his sweet wife down in Arizona.

The thing that never ceases to amaze me, and for which I'm eternally grateful, is that grandchildren, for some reason, believe that grandpa is the smartest person on earth. And believe me, I'm not going to tell them otherwise.:D

The quote is "Grandchildren are God's reward to us for not killing our children" :D

Grandkids are the greatest. We have 3. 11, 2-1/2 and 4 months. They’re my reward for whatever it was I did right in my life.

My mother lost her dad when she was a young teen, so of course I never knew him. My paternal grandfather died when I was only five. I have vague memories of him, and no photographs of us together.

My only grandchild (so far) will be three in July. It's such a thrill to go over to their house, and have him run toward me yelling "Pop-Pop!" when he sees me. I take photos of us together all the time, so that if I don't live long enough for him to remember me when he's grown (I'm almost 71), he'll at least have those...

We took custody of my grandson when he was just shy of 2. His sister came to live with us at 5 days old.
We're blessed to have two healthy kids, but I must admit, when my old bones are creaking, an overnight and breakfast (along with shipping them back in a day or so) sounds pretty intriguing!

Anyone who tells you that they keep you young is crazy.
Wouldn't trade them for anything though. They make Pappy feel useful!

Our two are 15 and 16 now. We missed most of their growing up because we lived 800 miles apart. Now we see them every other weekend. We are doing our best to make up for lost time, but only a few years before they are gone to college. Now if number one son would find a wife and make some babies, I'd be in heaven. Alas, he is too busy devouring the world to settle on one woman. I, like BC38, envy you this time with your grandson.

I got really spoiled when I was growing up. I lived in the county adjoining Geauga County, OH to the north. Geauga County had an annual Maple Festival and has a big maple industry. With my diabetes I have to really go slow on eating maple candy but I still enjoy it in very limited quantities. I usually buy a gallon jug of maple syrup from there and pour it off into smaller containers for table use.

Great idea Beemerguy. One of the really positive aspects of the modern digital age is that you can document (photograph) so many of those "mundane" moments in your daily life - like your times with your grandson.

That is so much more valuable than documenting what you had for lunch today on your FaceBook or Instagram account. Someday those images of you with your grandson will really mean something to your descendants.

Make the most of those times with your grandkids...

NOW I am REALLY jealous. 16 grandkids?!?
I'd be happy to have just one or two.
The Lord has truly blessed you brother. Be thankful.

I can vouch for this. The technology may have changed, but the value to me is still the same. I have a picture of myself with my paternal grandfather from 1960 when we went trout fishing together in northern PA. We went fishing and hunting together along with my dad a lot when I was growing up.
