New guy here. Shooting enthusiast (big surprise there folks), appreciator of finely wrought metal in useful forms, occasional RSO at my local range, and all around grommet.
For pistolizing I'm mainly a 1911 guy, but there's a poorly concealed wheelhog aspect to my personality, and so far all my wheelies are Smiths. My first was a Mod. 28 Highway Patrolman bought for bubblegum money from a friend who was liquidating his lately dead father-in-law's collection. I was a tyro back in the day and knew nothing. When my friend showed me the inventory and said pick any two and you can have them for the xfer fee I picked the Highway Patrolman and a Colt's Combat Commander just because I liked the sound of the names. Fortunately they turned out to be wise choices.
I have since acquired a few other Smiths, all rather more deliberate choices: 686-6, 625-8, 327, and 642-1. Each scratches a certain itch. I'm quite happy with them all, and see no end in sight save going into receivership.
Which brings me to why I'm here...it's a constant source of amazement to me to see how much some folks know about various things gun, and I delight in having free access to so much raw knowledge. For better or worse I'm the kind of guy who has more questions than answers, so be forewarned!
