I ordered and received a stock S&W rear sight for 9,40 fs hearing others have installed it on a m&p22 to replace the stock adj sight. It certainly does not slide into place easily like the stock adj sight does. Before I start punching it into place, just wondering if others who have replaced the rear sight had this problem. The slide is aluminum, so I need to be careful.

Also, anyone know the proper set screw size for the fixed rear m&p sight.
The set screw from the 22 sight is a different thread.
Thanks

You'll have to file the new sight most likely. Don't just force it in. You might want to take it to a Smith. Good luck

I replaced the front and rear sights on my M&P22 with Dawson FO sights. I filed the front edge of the bevel, till it slid in, about the same as the old one came out, with my thumb and a hard push.
I did use blue Loc-tite on them too.

I put a Dawson fiber optic front sight on my M&P 22 and did have to file the front of it to get it to easily slide in. I took a black sharpie and colored it in before I installed it but you really cant see the front anyway. Dont force the sight into the aluminum, it will deform easily. Good luck.

Okay thanks. I figured I would need to do some filing, but hoping not to ruin the black finish on the sight.

Did you refinish the area you filed? I have some perma blue but it did not do a good job of blueing an old sight that I filed for another pistol.

Regarding set screw, I think I narrowed it down to 5-40. Can anyone confirm? My hadware store didn't have any.

I used some cold bluing on mine and it came out fine.

I put a Novak night rear sight on mine, and it took hours of filing, sanding, and testing before it finally fit! I will take it to the gunsmith next time.
