Hello, I have done a small amount of research and have taken this weapon to several local gun shops with no luck. I am trying to get an overall value, and identify what this revolver is exactly. It is stamped 629-2 with the sn beginning with BED. Any help would be appreciated

As I posted in your previous thread on the same Model 29-2, I think the barrel has been changed. The lines of this barrel do not match the lines of the frame. The finish is different between the two and it also is wearing non original stocks (no S&W medallions).

Interesting. I'll look into that other post more as well.

Is the barrel 3"? It's throwing me off because if it is, it seems it would have a full length ejector rod rather than the shorter on. My 629-4 3" classic hunter has the full length rod. Other than that, they look alike.

...this may be fairly rare.
How could it be rare if 3,200 were made on the initial order? And likely thousands more in proceeding years on other orders for various distributors. It's a fairly common and exceedingly popular revolver, but not rare. Everyone is welcomed to define their own terms, but "rare", in my view, is like less than 50, EVER.

Hey, not sure what's got you in a bunch, but I made it clear that I have no clue as to what I have here, and up to this point I've only gotten guesses. So unless you can 100% tell me what this is. It's looking pretty rare

Well I finally got it figured out. It is a 629 with a 3inch barrel it was made in October 1989 and it was the 70th one made that month. It came with an unfluted cylinder and rubber grips. The wood grips are aftermarket. Sku# is 103650

Thanks for the help, others not so much. 😒

I consider a gun with a few thousand made scarce. I think the Kernel meant rare as very few. IMO that's just gun lingo.

Very nice pistol! And was a handful with full power loads. I had a 629-2 Classic Hunter in 3" serial on mine began with BEE approx 1989.

Not in a bunch. Just a little suspicious of newbies who come here to gin up interest in an otherwise common gun so they can flip it to the uneducated for a unwarranted premium.

Perhaps you are as you say. If so, my apologies.
Just because I'm new doesn't make me any less of an asset to this community, I'm a s&w fanatic owning several semiautomatic pistols and multiple s&w AR'S I go as far as holding hundreds of SWHC stock. I am interested in selling this. I have no want or need for it. And to keep myself from getting into a bad situation by knowing exactly what weapon I have and what it's worth. That way I don't charge someone an unwarranted premium.

I also realize how ****ty that sounded^ I mean this all in a friendly tone, we're all grown men discussing the same subject.
