Help me make a decision between 2 guns (and an experiement)

OK, I'll chime in here. While I don't have a 4566 (yet), I'm sure I'll have one eventually. I do however have a 1911A1 I've had for about 30 years, and I can't recall the last time I fired it. I don't know how many times I've had it in for repairs, all I seem to do is cuss at it and get my blood pressure up. Yes, I admit I've thrown it. I've also thought about putting it under a D8 Cat. With my luck with that gun, it would wreck the Cat and I'd have to pay to repair it! Maybe it's me. I've NEVER had any kind of failures or need for repairs with my third generation S&W autos, 5903's. They're like Timex watches and the Energizer bunny. Get the 4566. -Ed.

Just spend some more and get the Sig. I have one as its a great pistol...Ok, before I get blasted, I would agree with some others opinions that if you really like the Smith DA autos, get that one since they are out of print. I have the S&W 1911 you described. It is a beautifully made, 100% reliable pistol but its easy to get one of those anytime. Also, as some have said, what it will be used for and your preferred style of shooting comes into play. If it is to be used for carry, unless you are highly trained on the 1911 for serious interpersonal conflict situations and can prove it, I would advise the DA auto...And consider yourself lucky. My wife has thought I have had enough guns for the last 25 years!

I have a 4566 TSW, it is as mentioned by many above absolutely reliable. I chased it down because I like my 1076 so much. I have a SIG P220 which is very similar to the 3rd gen S&Ws, but it failed me once and my level of trust in it is low.
If you want a 45 race gun I suspect the 1911 is your best choice. I am not sure how many race guns are built on S&W 1911s, not very many I would think.
I do have a S&W 1911PC great gun out of the box.
My vote; the 4566

My experience with the Sig 1911 isn't all that great and my Sig 220 will only feed 230 jacketed hard ball, anything else won't feed.
I'm a firm believer in shooting the handgun that feels the best or that you shoot the best.
1911's can be finicky and aren't a gun that takes kindly to kitchen gunsmithing. I hear people say all too often that polishing the feed ramp will fix it. Then after the feed ramp has been polished, polished again and over polished/ruined they have a odd shaped paperweight.
The S&W guns seem to have less complains than most guns do.
I've had 1911's that just don't work right and the only way to get one of them to work was to spend money with the right pistolsmith to get it fixed.
A plus for the 1911 that I may have previously mentioned is that there is a large amount of after market goodies for them.

Decision

I have decided that I would get the 4566. However, I was called out of town on business and got home this weekend. I checked and the 4566 is gone. If I keep looking I should be able to find one on one of the auction sites - I think I have even seen some of the 4566 TSW which I have been told have a little tighter fit. Well, half the fun is looking for the gun anyway. Thanks for your thoughts I will let you know when I get one.
