I just watched NBC Evening News. I just have trouble believing what I heard or think I heard.
The US Embasy in Iraq had 8,000 employees. This is soon to be increased to 20,000.
Can someone please help me uderstand what these 8,000 people do and what will 20,000 do?
I worked in south East asia for several years and got to know many Embassy staffers. No where were there that many employees in any one of them, Thailand, Phillipines, Sigapore etc.
Perhaps I am confused or maybe just neive.

They did say that. Just saw it, too. Didn't give a clue as to what they 'll do.

Maybe some are additional Marines?

Well, maybe a Company of Marines (100 give or take) on Embassy duty. 50-100 PSD for Ambassador and other bigwigs. Some useful cooks and supply guys. Maybe 50 there. That leaves 7750 useless State Dept losers increasing to 19750 useless State Dept losers all sucking up the hazard pay, hardship duty pay, and tons of overtime, sitting in the IZ and drinking, etc.

Just an opinion, based on time there.

You seem to be doubting a governments ability to bury itself in paperwork and red tape (just think of job opporunities at the red tape factory)?

How else can we get trillions in debt.

2nd largest oil producing country (potentially) in the world. Does that answer your question? Remember when the invasion was named "Operation Iraq Liberation" until someone caught problem, then changed it to "Operation Iraq Freedom"? They had it right the first time.
