Was this the factory original 3913 sight from S&W. If so am I correct that the allen screw is for elevation adjustment

Thanks.

+1. Factory sight. No elevation adjustment.
If you do decide to replace the rear sight be advised that there are two plungers under that rear sight.

So if these are factory does anyone know what load & distance these were factory fired at.

I consistently shoot 4-5" low at 20 yds with 115gr fmj ammo. Trying to figure out where to hold these sights.

Ditto for me. I am interested in the answer to the same question.

You must change the front sight. S&W made several different height front sights for this series pistols and if you call their customer service they will send you a shorter front sight. Measure the one that you have first so that they know what one to send. I have done this on two 3913's, neither time did S&W charge me for the sights. Also, I recommend that you get a gunsmith to put them on with a sight pusher rather than using a punch and hammer. They are on very tight.

I don't understand the whole different sights for different loads thing.

At 7 yards, or even 25 yards, the difference a bullet will drop no matter what round you are firing is minuscule.

So the only difference between bullets hitting point-of-aim is the way the shooter is handling recoil.

Right?

It looks original. The allen screw is not for elevation, but just to tighten the sight into its dovetail, which is probably unnecessary given the fact that S&W installs those sights with a hydraulic press and you can barely move them with a hammer and drift or even a sight tool.

Try either 124 and/or 147gr. bullets and see if it still hits low.
Also get another to shoot it and see if it continues to shoot low. It might be your grip or a flinch. Dale

I have the 3913 also with the same problem I started using 115 gr and then went to the 124 and 147 gr bullets and it still shoots low and to the left.
My Shorty 45 shoots great and I have to problem with my small Rohabrough R-9.
I guess that I need to change out the front sight also.:(

I just cant believe you need to change sights on such a fine gun. I have quite a few other guns of lesser quality with no impact problems. I hope i just need a different sight/hold picture.
