Here we go again

snubbiefan ,have not fired it yet .I am embarrassed to admit it but I can't get the original S&W boot grips off of it .I found the correct Allen wrench ,tried to loosen it , no dice . (The through bolt has a hex head ) It's almost as if someone had locktighted it . I really don't want to take it to a gunsmith to get the grips off .Any suggestions ? Afraid I'm going to round it off ,it's that tight .

Well....I have never found any that tight and it sure sounds like it's glued or cross-threaded. I believe those are torx (not sure about the 637). I guess you were planning on changing the grips or just giving things a look-see?

If push comes to shove.....drill the head off (slowly so as not to get things too hot) and pull the grips off. S&W will send you a new grip screw for free if you can manage to extricate the screw from the "nut side" with some vice-grips or something.. if you were going to change the grips....won't matter if you mess those up anyway.
