Hodgdon HS 6

I dropped by my LGS yesterday and low and behold they had several bottles of HS-6, HP-38, and WSF on the shelf.

I went home with a bottle of the HP-38.

I load more .38 spcl than anything else.

I bought a lb of HS6 about a year ago as I was low on powder for 9 MM at the time and it was available. I don't load powderpuffs in 9 MM so I can't say how they perform on the low end. But I was fully satisfied with it's performance on the high end for 9 MM. I did use magnum primers with it too and it burned pretty clean from what I remember and shot accurately enough for me. I'm not a big believer in loading ultra quick powders in 9 MM with lower charge weights so I can get more rounds per pound, as it also increases your chance of accidentally double charging a case without it being immediately noticeable, so HS6 fit right in with my loading philosophy for 9 MM. Powder isn't the biggest cost in loading 9 MM anyways and you physically can't throw a double charge of HS6 in a 9 MM case without it showing up immediately.

Thirty years ago I loaded a 255 gr Lee SWC in 45 acp for bowling pin loads. The barrel was an after market compensated barrel with a 24# recoil spring. Accuracy and bullet performance was exceptional for pin-shooting. A "fat-body" hit, removed the pin from the table immediately. Muzzle flip was none existent with the comp barrel.
