Funny thing is , this safe was cut open by previous owner when he forgot his combination . he had the lock changed then rewelded the patch on the backside
Clearly that safe has a reputation. Either that or our government has devised yet another devious way to keep us from our handguns. (Canadian joke... except it isn't, unfortunately. I wouldn't put anything beyond them at this point.)

When I was at university I had a prof who knew more one-liners than Henny Youngman, one of which was, "I can't remember the last time I had a memory lapse." Only now, 45 years later, am I aware that there is mroe than a kernel of truth in that.

My only suggestion is "find a teenager." He/she will have it open in under 15 mins.

Tell yourself, audibly and out loud in a commanding voice, "(your first name), remember the combination to the safe."

Before everyone laughs, this technique was taught to us by a government psychologist when I worked in the Intel Community....
Not the same one who was behind this?

Manufacturers usually keep a record of the factory combination and the serial number of the safe. If your manufacturer is still in business and if you can supply the serial number (sometimes inside the box) and if the combination has not been changed, You should be able to get it from them. If that doesn't work you can try locksmiths and see what they can do for you. They may want to know the brand of the safe and lock. The lock may be an S & G. Drilling or cutting the safe would be a last resort. Any chance you can contact the previous owner?

Quit thinking about it.
Pour yourself a nice scotch, neat, and light up a fine cigar.
Bingo! It will pop into the empty brain.
You'll have the combo, your anniversary, and some old girlfriend's phone number.

I just forgot my combination...glad the humidor and liquor cabinet don't have a locks.

For the OP. At 11:11 PM you will remember the combination. And from this day forward you will be surprised just how often you will look at the time at 11:11 PM and AM.

I read somewhere (I forget where :D) that posture can help or
hinder recalling forgotten info. Supposedly, lying on your back
will help you recall forgotten info better than sitting or standing.

...just don't do it with a lit cigar, after the scotch.

Write it on the back of a bag of frozen brussels sprouts and put it in your freezer.

In the office where my dad worked, was a large safe with just paperwork inside. He put the combination on the door with a note that there was nothing inside of value. People still tried to break in even though the combination was right in front of them.

I sometimes have nightmares where I have to open the safe at work, but I can't remember the combination. I usually wake up sweating.

Funny thing is that I haven't even had the combination to the safe in years. Well, that and the new one uses a key and a four digit pass code which is different for each user. I'm quite pleased that I don't have to open the safe at work any more, but I still have nightmares about it now and then. Weird.

My gunsafe combination is a hashup of my son's birthday, my wife's birthday, and mine. If I ever forget that It'll probably be better if I don't have access to guns.

Thank you all for your helpful and humorous replies
I did have the combination written down in the "notes" section of my phone , that was several phones ago ..long gone
I thought i had the combination written on some registration papers , but couldnt find it .i did find who i sold my 629-0 to though so thats a plus ...i want it back .
I had two trusted people that kept my combination , both loaded it into their phone and lost it when the got new phones
Someone mentioned contacting previous owner, but that man has gone to his reward
May he rest in peace
I tried the method suggested , of commanding myself out loud to remember , immediately a number came to mind ... It was wrong but i still remember it the next day ??? Lol maybe right numbers wrong order or im mixing up two combinations ?
Hypnosis idea may have some merit, but im not sure i trust my brain to work without me being present
Will call a locksmith and a safe company on tuesday
Im 51 and yes i do notice my memory is in a smoky tailspin

As Emo Philips said, "Some days, it just isn't worth chewing through the leather straps." I sure hope the rest of your life is less fraught or you're going to be all worn out well before your time :D

Been there, done that. I called the store where I had bought the safe 20+ years prior. The store had changed hands, but the new owner gave me the telephone number of the old owner. Believe it or not, he had kept the years of files. He asked my name, address, and telephone number and said he would look for the information. He called me back the next day, and since everything still matched the card on file, he gave me the combination. We talked about the good ole days and he actually remembered me buying the safe because of my then profession.
