How did cop with handgun kill two bad guys with rifles? (Photo of site added)

People today grossly underestimate the potential of a handgun.

A feller that knows how to use it can be quite effective even at ranges that would astound today's average pistoleer.

Indeed! A few years ago I watched a guy shoot a M1911 in 45 ACP at a silhouette match. He did good, until the rams at 200 meters. He could hit them, but they just wouldn't fall over. Not the kind of guy you wanted to piss off, eh?

Does anyone know what kind of rifles the suspects were using? All I have read is that they were "assault rifles". The media is not known for accuracy in describing a firearm. I have seen a Winchester Model 94 called a "rapid firing assault rifle" by the news media.

Ive been hearing AK-fourty-seven ""Assault Rifles""in both hands of the deceased twigs.

TV news this morning stated the Officer is wanting to keep his info out of the news. Sad state of affairs in our world today our heroes have to stay undercover because he doesn't want to be threatened !!!! The comment they made was an auto pistol was used. Most all depts these days all officers use the same weapons as side arms. Old guys rule! As the tee shirts says. Salute to you Garland Officer.

I hope you mean semi-auto loader, not automatic as I don't think any of our police carry fully automatic pistols.

The press loves to blur that distinction so that those unfamiliar with guns will get the totally wrong impression. It is for the same reason they created the term "assault rifle," to use on any rifle that has a magazine rather than a bolt action.

More like two contestants in the "Jihadi Special Olympics"...

OK now guys lets settle down or some senator in MASS Or NY will be introducing legislation to provide training to all terrorist groups so they have an equal opportunity to win future shoot outs.

Let's face it terrorist are a minority group and you know how the federal government feels about any minority group being guaranteed their equal rights. That will certainly trump all other factors.

I can see it now, the Equal Rights for Terrorists Funding Act of 2015. The press will laud the Act as marvelously progressive and a case of brilliant thinking outside the box by a caring nation.

I know there are still some who think such a thing could not ever happen. LOL

Any published reports on how the courageous cop in Texas used a handgun to take down two bad guys with rifles?

Well........he used his GLOCK. Guess I will be banned now. Maybe this is an officer that enjoyed competitive shooting or maybe he took his kid shooting all the time. I'm glad he had a steady hand. Everybody needs to practice this month. The officer has set a high bar for accuracy. Good guys 1, bad guys -2

I am glad that only one good guy was injured and the officer that took out the terrorists aimed small and made good hits. I hope this is not a vision of the future but something tells me that it is.

Interesting you should say this. It was just yesterday that this article written a decade ago was pointed out to me. Ten years after it was written, it seems prophetic, and may well be a glimpse of the future.

According to the seven phase plan outlined in the article, we are on the brink of a period of, "total confrontation" with radical Islam.

From the article: "The Sixth Phase Hussein believes that from 2016 onwards there will a period of "total confrontation." As soon as the caliphate has been declared the "Islamic army" it will instigate the "fight between the believers and the non-believers" which has so often been predicted by Osama bin Laden."

I ran this through my head several times, I think it was SWAT snipers who took these guys out and not the lone traffic cop with a Glock. Nothing against Glocks, I own a XDM but they are not the most accurate handgun made and this guy took one to the leg. I would imagine that the PD wants to keep the other snipers out of the reports and leave it as one defenseless Glock carrying traffic policeman taking out 2 bad peps.

Especially with AK 47s if they fired any shots which they evidently did then he did not take them out with a .45 caliber Glock. No way no how, regardless if he is the IPSC super champion of the world.

Last story I saw stated that the terrorists got out of the car one at a
time. The officer shot the first out and he went down. The second got out then and got the same treatment.
Department spokesman said something like, "He did what he was trained to do and did a good job."

Story also said the police service gun was a Glock in .45.

Story could change again, I suppose. This version made more sense
than some I saw/heard.

With this officer you get the good feeling if there had been a third bad guy, there would have been 3 put down.

There's an article, ABCnews I think (I'll go look for it) that said the officer was armed with a .45 caliber Glock. Though it did not mention the model, it's a safe bet it was .45 ACP and not .45 Colt ;)

Edit: also, there was a pic of the outline of one of the perps bodies on the ground with a big blood stain emanating outward from the head area of the outline. Guessing that explains why the body armor worn by the perps was not of any help to them.
