How do you conceal your large handgun?

With a large vest. I do not believe that it signals "I'm carrying" as much to the general population as some here believe.

Since I have plenty of problems concealing a large handgun because I am seldom dressed in a manner that I think will keep the handgun thoroughly concealed (seldom; not never) I am curious - lessons learned, I guess - so I'd like to just read comments from folks who conceal guns like these:

Glock 17

SIG P226

S&W M&P (full sized)

1911

Hi-Power

S&W 3rd Gen full sized pistol, e.g. 5903

This is for teaching, please, not debating - I have little to add to this in re concealment so I am just going to read and learn.

Much obliged.

If you are unwilling to change your dress style in order to conceal the guns you list, you, simply won't be able to. I don't know what else to tell you. I'm guessing that you already know how to dress to do so...but just choose not to - and that's fine. There are plenty of compact and subcompact handguns that will allow you to be well protected.

I carry a Glock 23, and sometime a Browning HP, and my dress is modified accordingly. If (for some reason) I am unable to dress to cover them...or unwilling to, I simply carry a Shield 9mm or Bodyguard 380.

I'm 6'0 ft @ 170lbs I wear form fitting clothing or just a touch larger.

Jeans, normally a size 33 I wear a 34 for an iwb holster

undershirt so that the holster and gun dont rub against skin. A tshirt overtop. A good belt and holster do wonders

It's as simple as it sounds, dress around the gun. If we are unwilling to do so, then we find ourselves buying smaller guns.

There is no set way of doing this other than a quality holster and belt. There's a start. The rest comes from trial and error.

What works for one may not work for others. Keep your teaching basic. The rest, they must figure out for themselves.

I occasionally Carry a HK USP Full Size in a Milt Sparks Summer Special 2 IWB Holster usually I wear Jeans & a Looser fitting T-Shirt No issues,I Have the Original Summer Special for My Colt Officer's ACP as well.

I'm 5.11/185. I used to use a Milt Sparks Summer Special II to carry my M&P 45 FS. I got into the Crossbreed Super Tuck last year. Once broken in, they're pretty comfortable. As they're one size fits all, I can carry my 45 or my 9c. The 9c obviously conceals better, but the 45 doesn't exactly stick out when wearing an untucked polo or T shirt.

I dont often carry a large concealed handgun. When I do I am usualy trail riding and dont worry whether it shows or not. I am about 6 ft 1" and now weigh about 280. I used to be over 3 spins. I have plenty of humongous shirts and jackets. 37" sleeves and 3XLT. I often wear Perry suspenders over my T-shirt and usualy have a car cover shirt or jacket handy to put on and wear untucked if I come into a situation that I dont want to alarm the citizens although we can OC here and I also have the CC permit.

I guess I'm not in the general population then.;) Vegas is full of folk that carry and folk who carry as bodyguards. I've got pretty good at picking those who are tooled up.

Living in Vegas things like a jacket, vest or undershirt to aid concealment don't fly too well most of the year. In fact, they pretty much scream concealment here. Given the crazy size of cellphones these days, I'm thinking of some kind of ambiguous rectangular holster. My buddy has one for his sub-compact XD.

For the last 15 years I've carried 4" 1911 45ACP pistols IWB. I'm 5'7" and 250lbs. Get a good belt and holster and it will disappear under a good shirt. I just bought a S&W Shield 9mm last week and bought a OWB Kydex holster. This is my first and only OWB holster but the Shield disappears in it and with an untucked shirt you can't tell I'm carrying. The lighter weight makes my back feel much better also!!

I don't always carry concealed.............

But, for casual concealment,

I sometimes use something like these....

Under a sport coat, jacket or un-tucked shirt.

1911,

For more concealment....Inside the waist band

For deep concealment....Well I ain't gonna say ;)

It's been my observation, that folks tip their hand while carrying concealed
by fiddling with their sidearm. they keep touching it like it gonna disappear or something.
They're continual pull up their belt and pants, from a poor belt choice.

And some are way to self conscious and draw unnecessary attention to themselves while packing.

Lets see.......... 5'9" 165lbs.

Concealed carry since 1978.... daily since the mid 80s

Large carry Sig 220, 4566, Beretta 92 (a not-so-compact compact), 915, 4" 66 all on occasion

All are carried IWB in a Milt Sparks Summer Special/ or Executive Companion holsters with a "good gun belt" designed as a "gun-belt".

Cover garments Oct to May my favorite is the LL Bean flannel lined canvas shirts.... I also use a lot of mid weight 1/4 zip sweatshirts.

Summer oversized (L) Camp/fishing shirts with a square tail.....short sleeve or long sleeves rolled up.

For the record I generally carry a 3913 (90%) or a,6906, Sig 245(winter) or a 3" 66 (woods).

Seriously, aside from untucked shirts for OWB carry, you dress like a "homeless surfer" only if you choose to do do.

No offense, Rick, but those photos you posted display an appearance that would convey the wrong message around here. You'd get a serious hairy eyeball, particularly right here across the street from the cop shop.

I have Royal Robbins shirts that can be worn untucked and look neat and professional, but they're in no way "lo-pro" to a cop or a criminal - they look exactly like what all the Secret Service guys down the hall from me wear when they are wearing that (their most "dressed down" for work) mode of dress. Oh, and I can just about always make their service pistols printing as they move despite the cover garment.

If you are a cop and don't really care, that's one thing. If you can pull off looking like a cop (and that's a question of physique as well as grooming - both different between the federales and the local boys, BTW) and don't mind that - great. But you're not really "concealing" . . .

I was expecting a large handgun to be on the list.

1. N frame 4 or 6 inch.
2. Ruger GP 100
3. L frame
4. SAA
5. Long slide Glock
6. SW 410 Govenor

I find the pancake holster works on 4 inch N,K,L frames with compact grips. I like Simply Rugged holsters and Grasshorn Stags.
Works under a loose T shirt for me.
