How do you feel about the NRA?

Doesn't really matter if you like them a little or a bunch,

ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, THE ONLY "REAL GAME" IN TOWN. :)

If you choose to believe something else you are possibly delusional. JMHO!

We don't all have to agree with every NRA administrative policy, and their approach to every issue; however, the NRA is the only representative organization that lobbies for the 2nd ammendment and the firearms industry, and has done a pretty damn good job for many years. So the NRA needs all our support.

I used to be a member in the 90's. Never felt like they really did all that much. It occurred to me that they are mostly a lobbyist organization. Most of that $$ they take in goes to hiring professional lobbyists to go visit law makers (and their office staff's) and lobby for what they can get to protect us from "something worse" than what we already suffer under. They have an office that can take legal actions against particularly intransigent lawmakers or other organizations, but I never hear much about their activities. Almost as if they don't do much.

I decided to give my $$ (no it's not a lot, but it's better spent) to the 2nd Amendment Foundation because they were in the news for filing actual lawsuits and winning! They don't lobby anybody, they attack! That's what I want my donations doing, so that's who I send them to.

A life long commitment

It it when I was 12 ('62)-met my future wife while shooting competition in '74.
Became an NRA/4H Pistol instructor a few years ago. The NRA advocates my given oath, as an officer to support and defend the Constitution-
Now our son, an Army Officer, and our daughter, a businesswoman-are commited to the NRA.
In our circle they're called "stand up guys"

I like the Sipowicz bit about the NRA being like a wife. As a once long time match director I have had my share of beefs with them and once sat on a local gun organization's board with an NRA director and thought him a jerk. But face it they have been the strongest and loudest voice we gun owners have in Washington and that has worked out well. NO, they are not always right but enough to make it OK. If every gun owner belonged to the NRA we would not be in the position we are now in trying to defend them.

Long before the terms "Assault Rifles and High Capacity Mags" were ever heard, we had organized efforts to ban or severely restrict ownership of handguns, hunting rifles, shotguns including taxing firearms and ammo out of the reach of the common person.

That is when the NRA started becoming a defender of 2nd Amendment rights and in my opinion they have done a pretty good job. We still have our firearms. We now face a very hard battle and supporting the
NRA by enrolling new members, financial contributions and writing to our legislators is a must.

To those despise the NRA and their efforts so much, it makes one wonder who you really support.

I support the NRA and am proud to be a member!
They are The organization to defend our 2A rights. For those procrastinating or thinking it costs too much, please remember that we need to actively work to defend our rights or those rights will be gone. Now more than ever, please join us.

I have been a member of the NRA for decades and will continue to be. However, I have some complaints on how they do handle themselves in state affairs in GA. They have rail-roaded bills that did not originate with them or did not get asked for approval, so came out anti-bill. That is not a good thing to do in a state that has so many gun-rights advocates. Many here in GA have dropped the NRA and gone on to join Second Amendment Foundation or Gun Owners of America instead, not in addition to.

On the national-level, they have clout. On the state-level here in GA, they are not the favored group of all gun-owners anymore.

I approve of them enough that I just got off the phone with the nice young lady that took my information to upgrade to Lifetime Membership. Something I should have done a long time ago.

Certainly an NRA member. Recently, I also joined the Second Amendment Foundation. Their efforts in challenging gun restrictions in the courts have been hugely successful over the past several years. While the NRA has an excellent track record in the legislative and political arena, SAF (often along with the NRA) is stellar in the courts.

Been a member since the late 60's, life in the early 70's. Along the way went through all the upgrades Patron, Endowment, etc. Without the NRA we wouldn't have our guns today so even though I don't always agree with them on everything they are the best thing we have going.

We need more members to help keep our elected officials in line. They may not be members themselves but they fear them when election time comes around. So let's try and get more people to join and by the way we all need to get out and VOTE.

Just my two cents.

In spite of my not being an american citizen I joined today for a 3 years period.
I feel that freedom lovers all around the world should unite to smash the scourge of disarmamentists. In Brazil they are very active and go almost unchecked, as we don´t have a powerful NRA like organization.
Regards, Ray

Politicians and media types vilify "the NRA" as some sort of monolithic organization. It is sinister and bullies politicians and critics. It doesn't care about the "poor victims of gun violence". The truth is "the NRA" ONLY has any influence because people like us support it and we tend to vote and write letters/emails to politicians. As the bumper sticker says, " I AM THE NRA AND I VOTE". Its easier to vilify the organization as stupid, misguided and cold hearted than to insult us directly as being all that and worse. The fact is, as they see it, we are rubes and dummies who are duped by this evil organization...Judging by the rate that people are joining, it doesn't appear to be working. Perhaps, we are not all stupid and know the smell of manure when we smell it!

As for me. I have been a member of the NRA for longer than I can remember. I feel that if you own a gun and support the 2nd. amendment you should be a member. I also feel that if you don't(join the NRA) you are letting other people carry your water for you. JMHO

I'm sorry you feel that way. I used to belong to the NRA but I don't anymore. I don't like political action committees and the way they operate. It amounts to a bribe for politians to support legislation for the PAC's interests. It's the biggest problem we have right now, congress voting in line with PAC's and coorporate money to fund their campaigns and not voting in the interest their constituants. PACS, lobbyist and big corporate contributions should all be made illegal and single term limits mandatory.

I give my money to the SAF where it will do the most good, in court. Sorry, but you ask.

The NRA is US. In the millions - not nearly enough, but that should start to tell anyone with half a brain cell that cares to use it that it is not a monolithic one-thought controlled organization. Just a few short years ago there was a lot of internal infighting over control and degrees of ideology.

So there is not one single issue, one single decision, one press release, or one speech that is going to please everyone. Yeah, we've got some leftist members who act like embarrassed apologists and we have some on the right I would hesitate to associate with - just like any other organization with millions of members.

I do want to reach out and 'touch' some of these whiners that are supposedly gun owners who show up here and other places and talk trash about the NRA . . . like they know so much better or could do any better.

It's said to death, but bears repeating and realizing - the NRA may not perfect but it is the most effective organization out there defending gun rights and is as much or more responsible for any liberties we enjoy in the sport today against a constant onslaught from our enemies since the 1960's.

If you're a gun owner and have no use for the NRA - I have no use for you. Please do me the courtesy of not responding to my ads when I buy or sell here since I will not knowingly deal with such.

Well, you asked . . .

Agreed!! Well said Sir.
