How do you feel about the NRA?

In spite of my not being an american citizen I joined today for a 3 years period.
I feel that freedom lovers all around the world should unite to smash the scourge of disarmamentists. In Brazil they are very active and go almost unchecked, as we don´t have a powerful NRA like organization.
Regards, Ray

Ray - THANK YOU SIR!

He is not a US Citizen and he feels this strongly........ we need to get the fence sitters off the fence.

I also feel that if you don't(join the NRA) you are letting other people carry your water for you. JMHO

I have felt that way for many years.

Probably most of us are old enough to remember the hubbub before GCA '68. Well, maybe I should say some of us. :) Back then the big thing was 2-inch barrels on handguns - the so-called "Saturday-night Specials." I still have my 2-inch Model 36, no doubt thanks to the effectiveness of the NRA.

I am not so sure that I agree with my friend George that we are part of the problem, but we certainly are being made to appear that we are. :(

We NEED for you to be COUNTED with us!

There are 85-100 million gun owners in the US, and only 4.3 million NRA members.
"They" are going to say that MOST gunowners do NOT care if more serious restrictions are put on guns!

If you are not counted WITH us, "they" are going to count YOU as being against us.

We are in the toughest fight of all time to protect the 2nd. They are coming after ALL guns eventually, so don't think for a minute that you are OK because you don't like black rifles or 30 rd mags. If ALL of the ARs and AKs and 30re mags disappeared tomorrow, "they" would start on the next level.
Your deer rifle would be labeled a "deadly, high-powered sniper rifle".
Your bird gun will become a "deadly 'automatic' shotgun that can be sawed off in 5 minutes and spray hundreds of horrific buck shot".
'"They" will want revolvers because a sack of speedloaders could make them WMDs.

Let people who haven't joined yet know that one of the benefits the NRA offers to their members is a free $2,500 firearm insurance. It covers theft, accidental loss, and damage. All you have to do is make sure to fill out the form they send and opt in. That alone is worth the $25 a year. Benefits of Membership

In this fight I feel the same way as I'd feel about the 1st Belorussian Front in 1945.

They know how to deal with the enemy and get results.

Preach On, Bossman!!

Well Said!

Aside from the junk mail and constant phone solicitation they're just fine by me.

I have been an endowment life member for many years. I also write a large check every year to NRA!

If you have guns and believe in every citizen's right to be armed you are a FOOL if you don't support NRA. Why do you think the anti-gun crowd takes every opportunity to bash NRA? We and the NRA are enormously powerful and we scare the heck out of slimy politicians. Just ask Algore who couldn't carry his home state in 2000.

I am a staunch supporter of the NRA, I think they do a lot of good for the firearms community no matter what kind of shooting you like. There is no other gun rights organization that is involved in all of the areas which the NRA covers. Second Amendment protection, firearms training, competition, and probably other things I am not familiar with.

They have made some mistakes and probably some questionable choices. But those pale in comparison with all of the good they have done.

If you think they are not the big dog in the fight for us, just look at who the anti's attack first. It's not the other national gun rights organizations they fear; it's the NRA.

I can't afford to join. I just don't have the dough. I'm retired on fixed income. Maybe next year. They once did something I didn't like. By the way, let me tell you about the neat revolver I just bought at the last show for $700 and the good deal I got on some ammo for only $425. (Sarcasm if you haven't guessed by now). I joined for life at 18 in 1962 and have upgraded to Patron. And I am on fixed income!

Please join in you haven't. If you think they are not perfect---well....what is?

Sometimes, when people are involved in any endeavor, being on a board, become an employer, being put in charge, whatever, you now see things and/or have access to information that the rank and file may not have or understand.

Then you have to act accordingly whether it is with the reality of politics, marketing, costs of doing business and staying afloat, having to please all of the people all of the time, etc.

I hope that the NRA is making the best choices they can make given what the know of the landscape so to speak at any point in time.

I do not mind stating that I am VERY disappointed when someone is NOT a member and they care anything about guns and ARE a gun owner.

To me, that is almost like having children, but not wanting to feed them.

Being a college student working a barely over the minimum wage job (which hasn't given me much work the past 2 months grrrr!!), I just don't have the money to join. I know it comes out to chump change a day, but right now my money has to go to more important things.

One day I'll join, when I'm making the big bucks  just kidding, but when I'm making something a little more than right now.

I don't like joining 'groups'

I'm highly individualistic and don't join 'groups' easily. For all I agree with, there is usually plenty that I don't agree with. I'm usually very moderate on issues and I'm one of those people that can see every side of each story and try not be unjustifiably judgemental. You might say that I'm 'easy to get along with'.

That said, I've never been polarized on an issue like the ones we face as gun owners. The NRA is the single biggest hammer we have to fight the encroachment of our rights. Sometimes I very much dislike what comes out of the NRA, but it will take a really big snafu on their part for me not to support the organization.

What I would like to see in addition to the strong lobbying that they do, is to publicize the views or responsible gun ownership in familiar media, like TV, magazines, etc. in a positive way in order to try to convert more people to our cause. Let people see responsible gun owners and let them know what they(we) do.

Been a member for decades, and more recently joined the local Friends of NRA committee. The NRA succeeds because of their numbers and their activism. Politicians know how fast they can get on the ____ list and how much it can hurt on election day.

Just because you don't have money...

Just because you don't have money to join or contribute, doesn't mean you can't be a supporter. I'd like to contribute to this site, but my NRA membership is all I can scrape up now.

Maybe the NRA should have complimentary members that don't pay dues but want to show their support.
