I was just wondering how long it took to get your CCW in the State and County you live in? I live in North Carolina in Mecklenburg County and when I applied they told me 5 to 6 months.

in Washington state it takes about 30 days as of right now...I am sure some legislator is working on screwing that up as I type...I need to go shoot...I'm grumpy this morning...

Venango County, PA. with filling out the application, the clerk making the call, having my pic taken and the license laminated, maybe 15 minutes, if even that.

They told me when i submitted my application that it would be six to eight weeks for my Utah permit. I am a Utah resident and received it in about four weeks.

Last time I moved and had to re-apply with the county sheriff instead of the city police it took about 3 weeks from the day I applied to the day it came in the mail. As for as how long it took the very first time I applied I couldn't tell you. I know it was 1981 but I sure don't remember details like how long it took to get.

Something really wrong with 5-6 months.
It states the sheriff has 45 days to issue or deny the CCW. I am on my 3rd renewal in NC and they told me 90 days. Since I have a CCW they may not have to renew in 45 days? I am in Jackson County, NC

We live in Massachusetts. We first applied together in 1973 when we were dating. I had hair longer then my GF. We applied on a Saturday, dropped the app's in the mail after filling out the forms with the Chief of Police. He called me at work the following Wednesday and I picked up both CCW's that night. We never have had to wait more than 60 days since. We have "SELF DEFENSE" permits in the great state of Pennsylvania. We just renewed them last November, took less then one month each time.

The lady behind the counter that fingerprinted me told me that they were backed up because the hospitals, I believe there were 6 on the application were very slow on sending back the mental health reports, that needed to be done. I have read a few threads online of others complaining that Mecklenburg County is the worst as far as the length of time it takes to issue the permit. I'm not sure if I buy what she said or not but I'm at their mercy.

Same here. Also live in Utah and our CCW is good in a number of other states.

Received Class cert and called to schedule appointment 4/2/2013 (teacher had bum certs and had to request new ones to issue, other wise would have issued them immediately after class)
Next available appointment for "interview"/fingerprinting was 8/29/2013
Received postcard, next day went and picked up permit 12/16/2013
Hope its gotten better....

Well, it does say 45 days after he has received all the required information. So if he is being held up maybe so. You said there were hospitals listed on the application? Doesn't sound like the standard NC application.

I wasn't on the standard application that you can print off online. It was a seperate form attached to the application with the name of I believe 5 or 6 hospitals next to it that I had to initial the boxes next to the names. I just assumed it was just another page of what is normally filled out. She said they request any admission or records of treatment for mental health problems from them. Maybe something new?

Illinois law says up to 90 days with fingerprints, up to 120 without prints.
I applied for mine on Thursday afternoon and was called come to pick it up on Monday
They used 89 of the 90 days allotted by law.
I think it sat on a desk somewhere, didn't cash my check until a week before the deadline.
Thinking they do it on purpose.
I was amazed and impressed with the courteousness and professionalism of the Boulder County Sheriffs department throughout the process. A friend damaged his card and it took about 3 minutes to replace it once he arrived at the headquarters.

In Pennington Co. South Dakota, you simply present yourself at the Sheriff's Office, show a valid ID, fill out the form, pay a fee, and walk out the door with a temporary carry permit that is good for a couple of weeks. Within that couple of weeks, a limited background check is performed, and the card arrives in the mail. Renewal is every five years. No CC classes required.
