How long do you generally keep a vehicle before thinking about a replacement?

My 1997 Tahoe.

It has been somewhat expensive to maintain the last 5 years (new transmission, water pump, fuel pump and lines, brake lines, replaced cracked transfer case shell, painted hood and roof).

I still runs good, I like it better than the new ones.

That's what I'm talking about John. That Tahoe will run for another 10 years.
It's like airplanes. As long as you don't crash and keep up with the annuals there is no reason why they can't run forever.

Yes, but the frugal gene skipped her sister completely.

Like ol' Tim Wilson said, "A high maintenance woman ain't looking for a maintenance man.":D

I think I’m already hitched to her[emoji33]

I trade when I see something I like/want more than what I have.
Last time I traded down and got money back. 2 year old Lexus RX350 with very low miles traded for a low mileage 4 year old Tundra.

The great thing about it is it has next to no rust. Living in Cincinnati, with its mild winters, means it has seen very little salt.

I had a little rust starting around the wheel wells. I think I took care of that with some rust treatment and paint. A few years back the paint cracked/failed on the hood and roof, and rust started. I had a body shop repaint them, so I think I have taken care of all the rust issues.

Around here, I see a lot of cars that are at least 10 years newer than mine, but they are rusted out, beat up, and barely running. I don't get it. Neglect and abuse a car, it will wind up a clunker. Take care of it, and there's no reason it can't run for a long time.
