How many guns do you own?

When reading this post, I thought I had a good count. After counting, I was surprised I had more than I thought.

I’ve got almost 100 at present, over half being S&W or Colt. There’s not much point to hiding that I own guns, the PA State Police maintain a registry that isn’t supposed to exist but does, so “The Man” already pretty much knows what I got. Besides that I’m president of the local sportsman’s club, shoot in local matches, and hung around the local gun shop so much that people would call there looking for me. I like to joke that when they run my PICS check someone at PSP cries out “Oh come on, not that guy again!”.

I suppose if I’d been able to buy all those guns without paperwork I’d be more reticent to disclose the number.

It's an unfortunate world, but I think it's more about not being the neighborhood "gun guy" when some git needs a quick score.

I was amazed a couple of years back to find that my local tractor supply, in an area with a population density of about 4 people per square mile, had close to 50 big gun safes in stock. I get a glimpse in there occasionally when picking things up, and the place is still littered with safes. They must turn them over.

I agree with the vast majority here that it's best not to ask, so I don't, ever.

That's not to say I haven't privately observed that member X clearly owns more than I do. 'Nothing wrong with being curious, (and maybe a little green with envy) but, so what?

I believe it's not about "the number," but about the history, design, and personalities involved. That's what has fascinated me from a very early age, and still does!

OP, you got "an ear full" yet, I hope you stick around. This is a great resource of information from many, many fine people.
