I tend to go overboard because I'm a big believer in what Clyde the one armed deputy in "Unforgiven" had to say. He said he didn't want to get killed for lack of shooting back. Of course he did get killed by Eastwood who killed 6 men with one loaded revolver. So if you take movies halfway serious having more rounds won't help a whole lot against a shooter who has the stuff to nail you on the first round.

But still I think about the gangs I've ran up against and the groups of 2 legged skunks way out in the woods by myself and I figure more may be better. I sure hope it doesn't come to that but still.

I tend to carry at least 2 extra mags on me and I have 5 loaded mags for my truck gun all ready just in case. They hold 16 rounds each so I'll probably melt the barrel before I shoot them all. But a person just never knows what might come up. I realize I go overboard. Maybe I just like buying gun stuff. I guess I got in the habit when I was carrying a Sig P220 which only held 8 rounds in a mag. That never seemed liked enough to me.

Anyone else carry a lot of mags?

For my carry .45, a generation three pistol which holds 6 rounds including the chamber, I carry six extra loaded magazines.

Your title was asking how many magazines I buy for each of my pistols. My answer is ten.

Your post talks more about how many magazines a person actually carries. My answer is two- one in the pistol and a spare. I can't even fantasize about a scenario where I've fired thirty one rounds and the situation hasn't been resolved one way or another.

One in the weapon, one on my hip for carry. Another set just like them at home "resting". Mostly I carry a G26/4 or G19/4 with a flush fit mag and a G17 mag in reserve. Gotta love those Glocks.

Currently I have five mags for each of my pistols except the SR1911 9mm. I only have four for it. Waiting on a Ruger sale.

So actually for each .45 acp I have ten as the mags will fit in either one of my 45's.

In town, I carry what’s in the gun and no extra magazines.

Since I carry a Colt Commander 1911, that means I carry 8 rounds (I’m happy with the original 7 round mags). If I can’t handle a sd situation with what’s in the gun, more ammo won’t help.

I suppose I’d carry more if I planned on missing a lot.

Of course, I don’t entertain zombie fantasies.

I buy as much as possible. No number limit. Mags are expendable, they go bad, break, crack, deform, and sometimes are just a lemon. I have about 30 mags for my 2 ARs. Probably about 60 AK mags between 7.62 and 5.45. probably around 40 in 7.62 and the rest in 5.45.

Handguns vary based on use. My old 220 about 8, a few HKs between 10 and 4 depending on gun and cal. My carry gun about 20

All my bottom feeders came with two magazines, and that's been enough for me, so I've never bought any magazines separately.

For carry, my EDC is 14+1 and I always carry the other 14rd. magazine on my belt. My husband is usually with me, and he carries the exact same setup.

A lot of the reason I carry so many mags is I figure anyone with a working brain is going to back off if I fire 15 rounds really quick and then fire another 10. It would scare the heck out of me. I have been chased by a large gang of thugs (my son was with me) and trust me I was glad I had more than 9 rounds with me in that situation (8+1).

I found a good place to mount a defense and I could have fired enough rounds to draw the attention of the LEO's if nothing else. I wanted no part of having my son beaten by a gang of thugs. I might well have shot anyone foolish enough to come through the door of the ruins of that building (no roof but a wall with a door in it and lots of nice darkness inside plus a place for cover - there was just enough light to see that there was a place to walk and not fall into some abandoned basement - I was lucky to find that place).

Fortunately the gang never saw us duck into that place and there were no rats around either so it worked out OK. But I could see needing more than 9 rounds that night.

For my somewhat modified BHP Mark III four factory 13-round magazines. Outside of the house, one in the pistol and one on my hip, with two more at home in the nightstand.

I also have two 10-round magazines just in case I have to travel to California. :p

For my Model 52-2, just four magazines. I would like to pick up at least two more if the price ever drops below $150 per again.

Those are the only autoloaders in the house right now; the remainder are Smith & Wesson wheelguns.

I have 3 magazines for my Remington RW380. One in the well and two in a duplex mag holster. That gives me 18 + 1. Since I am not expecting to be be engaged in a sustained gunfight I think 19 rounds is more than enough.

Woow there bud. I wouldn't go spraying like that. Your responsible for all those rounds and whom they hit

I've got 5 for my M&P; 4 for the AK and 6 for the Mini. No rhyme or reason. If I feel the need to carry my M&P (or any hi cap handgun for that matter)AND extra magazines, I'm at the age where I stop and re-think the prudence of going to where I was thinking of going and either stay home or grab the Mini 14 and duct tape together a couple of loaded 30's . I mean hell, if you're expecting trouble might as well go the full monty :D

One in the Glock, one in my pocket, and another in a jacket pocket if I bring a jacket. Once I make it back to my car the sub 2000 comes out and I have about 5 33s and 5 17s if the situation really gets hairy.

As far as how many I buy, any serious use rifle or handgun is ten minimum per and all other handguns are 5 minimum. Magazines are dirt cheap right now, no reason not to stock up

I've got a Model 39-2 that came with three magazines, and a Browning Hi-Power that came with one. Those guns never get carried.

I did buy one for my Ruger LCP so that gives me two.

I've got about a half dozen 38/357 speed strips.

Duh! I know enough to put a group of rounds like that in a spot I know it's safe - like straight down if nothing else is available. Where I'm located there is pretty much always a safe direction to shoot. I live a long way from anything like a town. Plus if I figure my life is on the line I will do what I need to do. I'd rather try to scare off attackers if possible. There are plenty of hillsides where I live to fire off a few rounds without worry of what they will hit.
