How many of us actually SHOOT our main edc pistol?

My carry gun rarely gets shot as I have an identical gun I use for training purposes, as well as another one in the safe acting as a spare. "A pair and a spare." This puts the wear and tear on the trainer and helps to prevent equipment failure in the field(as much as possible).

Either my EDC or my home defense weapon goes to the range with me every time I go. I may only put two mags through it, but if my life is going to depend on it, I want to make sure it functions correctly.

I rotate carry guns. I shoot my carry guns. I pick Two a day to carry. The Wife and I try too shoot a few times a year so that's when they get shot.

I shoot my EDC about once a month, at least 50 rds. It isn't so much for improving my groups, those are good enough at 15 yds. The real reason is I want the trigger and operational control memory to stay tuned up. I don't want to be guessing about any of that when the chips are down.

I don't necessarily like shooting my Sig EDC because it's a compact. I would much rather mess around with a precision bolt rifle, a revolver or a 1911. Way more fun.

Camp 2.

I shoot my carry FS 9mm almost every time I shoot. I use it in training courses.

For every round fired I have hundreds of dry practice draws, pointing in's, trigger pulls, slide manipulations, clearance drills, and practice reloads. I check carefully to see if I am actually wearing parts out and fix/replace anything as necessary. I know my gun well.

I have a second FS 9mm set up the same way, and I use it for both dry practice and actual shooting. It can be rotated to primary at any time.

I have had new guns break right away. I have had trustworthy guns with low round counts suddenly break. IMO, not shooting a gun does not guarantee it will not malfunction at any particular time. Sure, odds are a good quality gun with a low round count has a reduced chance of breaking, but that's no guarantee.

I understand the concept of not shooting a carry gun much. I also understand there is a continuum of commitment to EDC. Some people who carry just don't shoot much. Others (like me) shoot a lot. No judgment here.

In the end, I doubt there are any statistics that prove one approach is more successful than another. I enjoy and teach all kinds of shooting, but personally I focus on my EDC skills above others. Shooting the same gun often seems to be no disadvantage to me.

I have two or three carry guns. I rarely shoot them. The one I carry almost all the time is a pocket .22 auto. Have only fired it two shots in the last year when I shot a rat with it that the cat chased out of the garage 6 weeks ago.

After vetting my carry gun...I rarely shoot it...but do occasionally.

I have a second, (older), version of the same gun I use for training and qualifications with the sheriff's office.

Either one would be suitable for carry, but only one gets the majority of the mileage.

Now this is a good idea. Once you settle on a EDC gun, buy two. Vet one and carry; let the doppelganger take the beating from the training. That's sort of what I did carrying the compact 1911 and shooting the full sized ones at the range.

Maybe I should get another G19 to run up the mileage on? On the other hand, G19s can go tens of thousands of rounds; I'll never wear it out in my expected life span.

I can shoot at my house and rarely shoot the guns I carry. They are all pocket guns.
With the ammo situation the way it is, I have only fired about 60 rounds total out of all my guns in the last 18 months.
I have the ammo, but when I consider replacement costs, and future availability, it dampens my enthusiasm for burning it up.
I am older, and have shot a lot all my life, a fair amount in competition in the military and law-enforcement/tactical, and have always been pretty good at it.
While my skills have may have deteriorated a little, the basic ones are still there.
If the ammo thing ever gets a little better, I will go back to shooting more.

I shoot my EDC pretty much every time I go to the range. At least a half a box of ammo - more often a full box.
I like shooting it, and it is a gun that I shoot pretty well. That's one of the reasons it is my EDC. It is a Sig P365.

I rotate my carry guns every month and those consist of a 442 ,a 36 3 in ,a detective special and an old cobra.I shoot the gun that I am carrying every month.

You mean we are supposed to shoot our EDC? Shucks i thought it was to look cool and scare the BS out of the bad guys that hang around the bank and pool hall. You actually want me to shoot it. Holy cow man, that thing is gonna get dirty, and have range dust and powder burns all over it.

I guess if;n you say i should shoot it i'd better get out some ammo (i carries it m/t so i dont's shoot myself) and practice shoot'n it. Can you tell me how to load it, it aint's got's no holes in the round thingy to put the bullets in, in fact it aint's got's no round thingy either. Hummm, wonder what happened to the instructors manual.

Every range trip two mags full and sometimes four.

Mine is a "no-dash" Model 36. I gets a cylinder or three every trip to the range, which is at least once a week, in fact, at the range right now waiting on daylight. On the same vein, how many here shoot their "home defense" weapon on a regular basis? My primary is an otherwise really nice Winchester Model 12 20ga that some fool cut the barrel to 18". I'll take it out and empty the magazine a couple times a year.
