how much ammo have you stock-piled?

I just lucked out and added 2 more cases of Blazer ammo for my .22s. For my 38s I picked up 20K of Federal Primers and 5K Remington to test as well as 1000 Wolf Primers. I enven have 10K of Winchester SP that go off 100% reliably in my 625.

I picked up 50K of 158 grain roundnose from two different friends that case. I think I'm set for this year.
 
The last time I moved, I had a ton of ammo. Litterly, and it all had to be carried up out of the basement.
 
I am glad to see my fellow shooters are stocking up on ammo.But I have a problem with telling the whole world about it.We have no way of knowing who is reading this forum and taking notes.If you think the men in black wont come after the little guy,think again. they have to start somewhere.we might want to think before we tell everyone about all the guns and ammo we have.buy all the ammo you can for the gun that fits you best.keep your powder dry and be safe.
 
Well, I am with the guys who reload. I probably have 5-6,000 rounds of assorted rimfire ammo.
For centerfire, what I have on hand at any given time depends on what I have been shooting most lately. What I always have is 50-60lbs of assorted powders, 20,000-40,000 assorted primers, 1,000+lbs of ingoted 20-1 lead alloy, casings galore in all calibers I load, including 45-70, 10mm, 40s&w, 32H&R, 32s&w long, 45 Colt, 38spl, 357mag, 44mag, 380acp, 9mm, 45ACP, 30Carbine, etc.
Also, keep the Dillon 650XL handly, a PW P200 turrent press, a Lee Classic Cast Press, a Lee turrent press, a cast iron Pacific single stage press, a Lee casting furnace, an RCBS casting furnace, 2 star lube sizers, three lyman 450 lube sizers, and a cabinet full of Lyman, RCBS, and H&G bullet moulds and handles.
When you shoot as much as I do, buying factory ammo is NOT an option.
 
How about 100,000 lead bullets in my basement?

I used to be in the bullet casting business, and all this is left over.

Not to mention the uncounted thousands of live rounds, pounds of powder, thousands of primers, cases, etc.

Every time the Chicago cops report confiscating a handful of guns and "thousands" of rounds of ammo, I laugh up my sleeve.

I don't have as much ammo as some folks, partly because going over certain limits requires a permit, but mainly because I don't want to own more than I'll use in a lifetime, and I'm already rapidly approaching old. I mostly try to make all of my range time "quality time," so I don't use the stuff up that fast. If I were shooting a lot of matches, it would probably go a little faster.

I own more .223 than I need. I possibly own enough .308. I clearly have adequate supplies of 10mm and .44 Mag. .38 Special is right on the borderline, with plenty of factory 148gr WC, but only ten boxes or so of Federal Nyclad 158gr +P SWCHP. I could use some more cheap .45ACP, but those days may be over. I have plenty of components for CF rifle.

I did most of my ammo buying back during the last primer scare, and mostly make small adjustments these days. My only real regret is buying 1000 W-W 158gr non +P SWC cartridges at $7/bx when I could have bought 2000.

As an old fart, I have to be careful not to buy more ammo than I will use in a lifetime. Some of you young whippersnappers have to be careful not to buy so much that it will get old on you, although I'm sure that that takes at least thirty years or so, if not more.

A reasonable stash for a few decades of practice may exceed what you can carry away in a SHTF situation, and I haven't really decided yet whether ammo is good trading material or not. Would you really want to have a reputation as the guy to go to if you need ammo? If you have three or four sons who are all shooters, maybe. Otherwise, maybe not.

Anyway, as you can see, my stash is rather modest, but probably adequate. Those who go for the big numbers, more power to you!

I remember a tread like this 6 months ago. Somebody posted warnings about big brother and that he will come and take your ammo all away! They will search your threads and pictures, check addresses and pay you a visit, if any laws are broken...

Boy did that kill the thread.

Yeah, funny how it got resurrected, must be the men in black at work.

It took me two days to move my ammunition from point A to point B. It was a real PITA, and really, compared to what I should have, I still don't have nearly enough. Still no black helicopters and still no visits from the ATF to chat.

I think that I might lose a toenail from stubbing my big toe carrying a giant sack of .30-06 in Garand clips up the steps though.
 
I've been storing ammo and reloading supplies (bullets, primers and powder) for about 7 years, quite seriously for the past 5 years.

Two things caused me to start seriously storing ammo and reloading supplies. First, the California legislature began introducing bills calling for a $ .10 tax per round of loaded ammo or per primer. Although it didn't pass both houses of the legislature, it has been introduced each and every term and gets closer every time. They were successful in passing a very restrictive ammo bill the same year they passed the .50 BMG ban. Although the Governor signed the .50 BMG bill, he vetoed the ammo bill.

The second thing was that I foresaw the rapid rise in ammo and components coming before it got here. It was a combination of little things I noticed after we invaded Iraq in 2003. Things like shortages of certain powders, brands of bullets, primers and certain calibers of ammo. And, based on what I read various places, I believed them a couple of years ago when they said that the South African and Australian .308 (that was everywhere) was going to be the last of the good quality .308 surplus ammo at cheap prices. The .308 ammo I have is Radway Green and South African and cost me between $ .15 and .25 per round, mostly in the $ .18 range.


I won't say how much I have (all within legal limits under federal and state laws), but here are the calibers (all firearms that go with these calibers are legal and registered where required with the State of California) I support:

let's just say that I have more ammo than me, myself and I can effectively use before someone gets in a lucky shot
 
Good, I don't feel so bad. I have about 1000 rounds of 9mm, 1000 of .22, and about 400 of .38 & .357.

The other day my dad said I was paranoid. I said, "One man's paranoid is another's prepared."
 
I think I need to get going, you guys are buying it all!
I know I have a few bricks of .22
couple hundred rounds .38 Special
and a few hundred here and there (hate living in a tiny apartment, no room!)
