how much did your 1st one cost

First Smith

I was at a local gun show in 1990 and a beautiful model 19 four inch was on a table for $275.00. I got to B.S.'n with the guy and he was selling it for a friends widow that had a cabin about 120 miles from town. I decided to pay his price as I wanted the gun and the story was good. I reached for the money in my pocket and he says to me "You really seem to admire that gun. She has to get $225.00 for it." I asked if he was sure. He said yes because she got it for her husband and paid $125.00 for it originally. I pulled out the money and he handed me a blue and silver box, a leather belt holster, and three boxes of 158 gr. ammo. I thanked him and he said no problem and he was waiting for the next hour to pass so he could eat after the show. I went over to the snack stand and got him a couple dogs with the fixins' and a pop. He was shocked and we both were happy over the deal. That was a pretty good day. A few years later, some guy offered me $400.00 for it and I stupidly sold it.

1st Smith - Sigma 9C circa 1996 when they first came out - just a bit over wholesale which was $490ish. Ish is right.

1st Smith revolver - 1968ish Model 57 with Cokes from Cabela's circa 2001 - $425 OTD.

I'm glad my first experience didn't sour me although it had every right to.

629-2 I bought new in Jan '90. My first gun, dad had to sign for it cause I was only 18 at the time ;). I now own more than 50 firearms but she's my favorite and I'll NEVER get rid of this one!!

My first was a Model 10 in 1977 and I think I traded for it. Cannot recall for certain, think I traded a Ruger Single Six and $20.00 for it.

$90 for a new Model 60 in 1971, from Demain's Police Supply. They were very hard to find back then, and no reason for the general public to even try, in our neck of the woods.

That Kinston, N.C. shop was my grandfather's (who died nearly 20 years ago). Here's some pictures of his (personalized) model 60, which I pulled out of storage and cleaned up just recently.

My 1st was a 586 purchased in 1985 for $255, but I no longer have it. The 2nd was a 67 purchased in 1990 for $200. I still have that one, so it's kinda my 1st one. It was a Georgia Power Security trade-in, but came with the original box and tools.

My first S&W, bought in 1962, while in the Army in Germany at age 19, was a Model 53 with inserts. If I remember correctly (hahaha) it was around $130.00 in the Sandhofen post gun store. Left the gun in Germany with a friend who bought the second cylinder and put a scope on it. He still has it today.

I paid $60 for this (then) like-new Model 17 no dash in April, 1971. Bought it off Tradeo on the Radio in Missoula, MT. I was driving down Higgins Ave. in my 1964 Impala and heard the ad. It was the day I graduated @ U of M. I've shot it a jillion times and killed a pickup load of Richardson's Ground Squirrels with it. In 2006 I had S&W refurbish it mechanically.

Model 19-3 ser. No. 7k27xxx bought in 1975 for 154.95 still have it in 98 percent condition.

In1969 I bought a used (in great condition) model 12 for $35. When I became a LEO in 1970 sold that one and bought a used model 15 for $50. Traded the 15 on a model 19 and from there have accumulated "several" more S&W's!!!! /MK

$129.95 for my first model 36.

My last Model 36 was purchased this past November with a shotgun for a total of $70.
Sold the shotgun the same day for $50, so this 36 cost me $20.

Please don't hate me. :)
