Quick question to all you out there. When did SW40F's start to be manufactured? More importantly when did the 15 round magazines start to be manufactured? I am asking bacause Mass. has a 'high capacity' mag ban in effect. We are not allowed to own anything made pre-September 13, 1994 that can hold more then 10rds... Just trying to figure out if 40F mags where even made before that date...

thanks for any help.

I bought mine in the spring of 1995, not long after the THP adopted them.

Do you by any chance remember seeing them around before that? I am assumeing that THP is a police dept, so I would guess that they woulnt adopt something brand new... So I think I should be safe...

Sigma SW40F with Serial number 1 was sold at the SWCA auction in July of 1994

Thanks!!
that is EXACTLY what I need to cover myself (legally).

Do you happen to remember where you saw that?

Edit: Never Mind, for some reason my searches never found the "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" now I have a perfect source in case anything ever comes up. Thanks all

SW40F

I bought a 40F earlier this year. It came with the blue plastic box. The date on the sticker says 4145. I was told this is the build date which is 04 year and 145 is the day of that year. Comes out to May 25 1994

THP is the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

They didn't keep them long before returning to Glock, probably the G22.

Understood, but I'm talking about what they used in the mid 90s, as I don't think the .357 Sig was around yet when they ditched the Sigma.

I could be wrong, though...

The THP started to to issue the sw40f in 95/96 but switch to glock 31 around 2003-2004 give or take,my comment was as to the current issue of the model 31 not the 22,the first sw40f I can remember seeing was in late 94 as smith was demo them to the PD I was working for then

I can't believe they hung in with the Sigma as long as they did....
