With these old eyes (cataracts) I must go to Red Dot optics if I want to continue to hit the target, errr well hit the target most of the time. I have a wonderful PC 1911 I want to put a Red Dot on that puppy. Can someone here help me out with some advice on how to proceed? I would sure appreciate it. :)

You want a mount that is not reciprocating with the slide. Any slide mount is going to eventually break the optic's electronics or ability to hold zero. So it needs to mount to the frame in my experience. That means D&T of holes, but it will retain zero.

Also, don't use an inexpensive optic. If you are not paying at least $200 for the optic itself, you'll spend at least that much chasing your zero before you toss it in the trash. Buy once cry once. C-Moore makes a very good design and is well regarded. It's tough and used in a ton of competitions to win. There are a ton of cheap toy grade red dot optic's on the market, and if you are new to this, its reasonsable that most won't realize there is a difference.

You'll also want to think about a slide racker. These mounts get in the way of accessing the slide. Some of these devices replace the rear sight (that is no longer used) with a lever that mounts to the dovetail so you can pull the slide back.

Starting to think that the frame mount may be the way to go, just have a hard time having someone drill holes in my frame. However, it may be the best choice. I also looked at Dawson frame mounts that just screw into on side of the frame........I am so confused...
Thanks,
