This is a Mid Ohio, observation, from someone with the cold weather 'Blues'. When the snow melts long enough to turn the soil that's been frozen solid, into mud, and allows one to see all of the plants, shrubs, and trees that were killed during the winter, then quickly freezing it again, so as to finish killing anything that winter failed to kill. Spring is then, 'just around the corner'. This phenomenon serves to remind us, that one can't reliably tell when Spring is here. My 2¢ worth on the matter.
