How You Can Tell Spring Is Here.

Well...."Spring Break" started at my school Friday, so that's a sure sign for me. Which is why I seem to have a little more time to hang out here on the forum!! While my students frolic on some beach somewhere. Who would want to do that??

Oh, yeah...it was 9°F a week ago, today it's 68°!!!

And.....Crocuses weren't up yesterday, and today they are!....

This is a Mid Ohio, observation, from someone with the cold weather 'Blues'. When the snow melts long enough to turn the soil that's been frozen solid, into mud, and allows one to see all of the plants, shrubs, and trees that were killed during the winter, then quickly freezing it again, so as to finish killing anything that winter failed to kill. Spring is then, 'just around the corner'. This phenomenon serves to remind us, that one can't reliably tell when Spring is here. My 2¢ worth on the matter.

When I don't see Robins around and the trees are turning green or blossoming then spring really is here. Last week I did see a couple Robins.
Around here in Texas change of seasons can happen real quick. Last couple weeks were 40-50 then by last weekend 60-80. My pear and plum trees are covered with blossoms now.

Around here it starts raining daily in Springtime and the ants move into my bathroom. They'll stay until it stops raining in October. And yes, I've tried everything. Joe

Well, we still have a little snow on the ground, but things seem to be warming up a bit. I can tell when spring arrives by the unmistakable odor wafting from the compost pile. And, take it from me, when you happen to own mules, the compost pile grows exponentially. The other day, when the sun was out and the temperature was in the 40's, I took a deep breath and could tell that spring is just around the corner.:D
