Huge mistake with new 57!!

The old Hoppe's formula had nitrobenzene in it. Great solvent, but toxic and carcinogenic. So out it went.

Following Hickock45's advice, Ballistol is all I use to clean and lubricate guns anymore. Non toxic and effective.

Like I tell my students, I know it's a bummer but you need to read the instructions...

Ditto on Ballistol, I use it on everything, (it's great!) but I believe it is alkaline.

I also use CLP interchangeably, no problems with either, but don't have any "new" blue guns.

From S&W instruction page 32
