I ordered some JP reduced power springs for my 15/22. I ordered them from JP Enterprises. The $9.95 for the springs I am OK with, but the $8.50 for shipping is just over the top. I will never order any thing from them again. Found out later I could have got them from Mid Way a lot cheaper. Live and learn. Don

Been there - Don't like it either...
I now order thru my local gunsmith. I might not get stuff RIGHT NOW, but usually within a week or two.
It seems that the shipping on my last Midway order (some springs) was around $10 - Arrrrg... I was at the gunsmith's just last Friday and he had an order put together for around $500 - The shipping was around $10 for that order too.

A friend told me last night that shipping was $3 and change, but they have a $20 or $25 minimum order. The fee for less than a minimum order is $3. I can always find something I want or need to get a minimum order. Don

When I tried to order my spring set it came out to the same price with shipping no matter who I ordered from. I guess I cant complain but the shipping is rediculous.

Unless I really need it, I try and wait until the order exceeds 50-bucks. Everyone is charging considerably more than actual.

A lot of small companies will only use trackable shipping to avoid fraud and being a small company normally means lower volume, so they don't get the volume discount contracts with the shipping companies that the larger companies get.

I've recommended Midway 1,522 times on this board. Apparently, that wasn't quite enough.

ps. Unless you ordered more stuff Midway would have been about the same cuz they charge $3 bucks extra for small orders.

I included the JP Springs in a recent Midway order for three items. Total cost (without shipping) was just over $30 for the entire order. I just checked my receipt - shipping was $5.46. That prorates out to less than $2 shipping on the spring kit. And, since we are counting pennies, the kit was 66 cents cheaper at Midway than at JP. Don't get mad, just do a little surfing on the Internet. Cheers.

Brownells charges $5.15 for lightweight shipping. Add to the $8.50 or so they charge for the JP spring kit and you're under $14. They also carry an alternate light spring set for just over $3.

What are you using to ship through USPS and gain a discount? I've been looking at shipping options for our company and haven't found anything great yet..

I have our shipping cost based on order value though.. Sometimes it'll be $2 less than the guy pays, sometimes it's $2 over..

Something to think about, it's not always the cost of shipping you pay for.. Boxes are not free.. I ship r/c airplanes. 1 box is $2.50 and that's buying them at several hundred at a time..

I own and operate small business that only ship out 7 to 15 packages a day. We have a minimum of 10.00 on even the smallest packages going out on UPS. By the time I pay the employee to wrap it, purchase the cardboard,tape, bubble wrap, then add the cost of shipping, I am probably loosing money. Sure UPS charged your supplier less than he charged you, but take into consideration their other costs.

Sometimes you have to look at it like this: What would it cost me to jump in the car and go get it?

That's your alternative, or wait until you can buy enough stuff to make the freight a smaller percentage of the order.

Its a couple of bucks...if a few bucks is worth the crisp new feel of how your 15-22 opperates then I would'nt worry about it too much Admit it, if there was no other spring kits and the price was even $10 more expensive to get it done its still probably worth it for the mod.

"Shipping and handling" is profit center for mail order companies. Even the $5.15 Brownells charges to ship the springs USPS is about $4 than the postage cost. Minimum shipping charge encourages folks to buy more items to "save" money on shipping. As noted, it's all relative to driving across town and finding the item out of stock.

Don't want to pay the costs? Simple. Don't order them.

The cost of actual shipping, plus packaging materials, plus wages for the folks in the shipping department, plus an occasional bag o' donuts for the folks in the shipping department... the postage may be only a buck or two, but we've got to supply the donuts!
